They are capable of charging up to six, single-cell lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries; six, dual-cell lithium-ion batteries; or six, six-cell, nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries simultaneously. The CH-5-6 have features that effectively protect the batteries and prolong the battery life. The CH-5-6 has six, independent intelligent charge-management circuits, one for each battery-charging position. They detect a battery's charge state, provide the appropriate voltage and current while charging, and turn off when the battery is fully charged. In addition, both chargers include reverse-polarization protection circuitry to prevent damage to the battery or the charger should a battery be inserted incorrectly. A charge status indicator for each position allows a user to quickly determine if a battery is fully charged and ready to use.
