Don't go by the fuse size of 15 amp to figure the load rating. The 18 gauge wire is only rated for 3 amps which is good enough for low power applications but anything higher will result in excessive voltage drop on the cable causing problems or even damage to your equipment. Ya know, basically dash mounted warning lights for my volunteer gig, taking up 1 of only 2 cigarette plugs in the car. So, now the new set up is a wire from the battery to a switch to this outlet which is really cool because it already has an inline fuse, I ran under the dash out of the way and my dash lights plug into this. I just leave that switch already in on position. I didn't cut the wire because of warranty on the dash lights. Either way, very happy with the quality and copper wire and 2 spare fuses if ever needed. It failed in the end.I take some measure of responsibility for the failure.I was going to move the battery the cord was connected to so coiled up the cable. The "insulated" wire touched the top of the battery. I moved it to a chair and the cable caught on fire.
