## Description

Review: This works! - We had a fireplace mishap on Thanksgiving that resulted in our brick surround being covered in soot. I had no idea how to clean it but found these dry clean erasers and ordered one. Keep in mind, the soot stains have been there for over 5 months. I swiped the eraser over one of the stained bricks and the soot was gone. Just...gone. You swipe it gently across the surface and it lifts the soot. We haven't tried it on the ceiling yet because the entire eraser we bought is black now and we want to use a fresh one on the walls but I have high hopes. It stops being effective once it is coated in soot, and doesn't work as well on the grout as it does on the bricks but after literally 5 minutes most of the stains were gone. I'm ordering a few more to go back over everything and to clean the ceiling above the fireplace. It's super easy and it works.
Review: Didn’t do a damn thing. Get some Magic Erasers instead… - As mentioned in the title. Bought this to use on a wall with some serious soot stains, as we’re moving out of a rental, and had to clean up from a fire that got a little out of hand (flue was closed). I used it exactly as directed - it was like I wasn’t even doing anything. It had literally ZERO effect on the wall. I would say this was simply the fault of the heaviness of the soot, or perhaps the type of paint on the wall - except a regular old magic eraser worked perfectly when I tried that on it! It literally removed 98% of the soot, and as a bonus they’re cheaper, available just about everywhere (no need to special-order a non-functional specialty “soot eraser” online), and also work great on just about any other type of scuff marks, dirt, or other blemishes on your walls! Unfortunately I waited too long, so I can’t return this anymore, but at least I can save someone else the time by sharing my experience here. Don’t buy this, just use a regular old Magic Eraser (with lots of water), and be done in less than 10 minutes! Pro-tip: if you use magic erasers often, you can buy the off-brand version in like a 100-pack here online - just search for “melamine”. But they’re fairly cheap just about anywhere else, too, and come in smaller packs, which is nice if you just don’t need that many!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: where do you get the UNGER attachment to attach sponge to pole shown on manufacture web site?**
A: I was curious so I went searching and found it on www.webstaurantstore.com. it is under the window cleaning tools and accessories. It is called an Unger Fix10 Fixi-clamp pole attachment. Item # 905FIX10. 22.77 is the price. Maybe typing in just that name will get you to some other sites/Ebay or amazon.

**Q: Will this work on a car that was previously owned by a smoker? And what exactly is is made from**
A: I bought this to use on the plaster walls of my home, but it was not very effective. The soot residue was greasy in my application. so I just went with the old fashioned way of water rags and a little dish soap. It took several buckets. I was disappointed in the sponge and would not recommend it. It appears to be similar to a sponge soft consistency. I purchased a vehicle that was smoked in years ago and had to wait years for the smell to go away, use febreze if you can stand the perfumy smell and magic erasers are my favorite, plus some pine sol in your water and wash down the interior. If you want perfection get it detailed but ask the business first if they can eliminate the smell that's their business and they are good at it. In my area a thorough detailing with carpets and upholstery being cleaned is about $150 or less.

**Q: Is this the same as a chemical sponge**
A: Yes, this is exactly the same as chemical sponges. Although oddly enough there are no chemicals in it. It is a sponge made of natural volcanized rubber. Hope this helps!

**Q: will it clean soot inside dryer drum?**
A: It will remove soot that is like a film substance. It will not remove dark burnt marks or stains. It absorbs topical dirt/ soot from any surface that will release it. Hopefully this helps. Good luck with your project.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Works better on books
*by K***N on January 8, 2014*

Not quite what I expected after reading others reviews on it. I was under the impression that this sponge would do such a good job that I would be able to see the clean spot in between the soot on the wall. It does not work that well, but it does seem to be picking up soot because it turns black. You have to keep cutting off the black parts of the sponge otherwise it will just smear the soot around and you will have a bigger area to clean. After many attempts and not getting the results that I expected, I found it easier to just paint over the soot with a slightly tinted paint which blended in nicely with the aged coloration of the walls. I only painted over as a quick fix since I was hosting Thanksgiving dinner at my house and didn't have the time to really get dirty with soot removal. If you want to clean the soot off the walls without repainting, the magic eraser works very well. Make sure that you have a dry towel to wipe the run downs with because it cleans extremely well. I did find that the soot remover sponge works well when cleaning books.
