You can thread 2-3 times as much per square inch than cotton. That’s why you see some microfiber bed sheets having 1000-1800 thread count. But you can’t compare that with cotton thread count. Both have different meanings, it’s not a standard measurement anymore. Microfiber feels very soft and the sheets are light. And that’s were the good stops. Since there made essentially of plastic threads (smooth threads with little defects or variations in their run lengths) and threaded tightly per square inch, air and moisture cannot easily pass through them. Cotton, which has variations and defects throughout their threads, will pass through heat and moisture more easily. But cannot be packed tightly as microfiber. Microfiber is measured in GSM (Grams per Square Meter.) Most microfiber fabrics are between 200-350 GSM. The higher the number, the thicker and softer the fabric.
