Elegant author, awesome book!
I had the privilege of meeting Janice Vaine this past weekend at a workshop she held at Quilter's Corner in Finleyville, PA. Jan is an elegant and gracious person and a wonderful instuctor that is very easy to learn from. Jan has the patience of a Saint. As for her book, it is spot on! Her instructions are very precise and easy to follow. I can't wait to see more books from Jan. It was an honor to be able to see the quilts in the book in person, pictures do not do them justice. If you are interested in embroidery, embellishment and applique this is definitely the book to purchase.

Setting a new standard for embroidery and applique instruction
This book is stunning. If you ever wanted to learn to embroider and/or applique, improve your skills or add three dimensional work and embellishment to your applique, then this is the book for you. It is beautifully photographed, logically constructed and clearly written. Jan's directions are clearly explained and detailed; the projects are beautiful and achievable. The books starts with the basics and then builds on those skills. There will be many beautiful quilts made from the inspiration and confidence this book will provide. It is like being in a class with Jan teaching all her gorgeous techniques. This is definitely a book to be enjoyed and used for years to come.

Excellent reference!
Janice Vaine's book is a complete reference library between two covers. The photography is clear and helpful. The directions are understandable and complete. This book covers a multitude of techniques in appliqué, embroidery and ribbon work. Even if you never actually make the blocks included (and there are plenty!) the information included will be useful for any project you can conceive.Besides the techniques, there is a cd included with more than 120 patterns to print. I can see an infinite source of inspiration with this book.

Beautiful
If you want to do (complicated) Heirloom Embroidery, this is the book for you. It is NOT for the beginner! But it is very well written and has good instruction. The projects you can do are beautiful.

Review of Art of Elegant Hand Embroidery
I ordered this book as I had previously bought her most current one. I was really impressed with the one I had so ordered this one. I am thoroughly pleased with this book with its attention to detail, list of supplies or suggestions, its pictures, diagrams, and has actual projects and ideas to complete a project or wall hanging. I love it! Great book! I am recommending to my friends. Thank you!

Thoughout this process I have purchased most books related to embroidery, stitching, etc. I just received "The Art of Elegant Hand Embroidery,Embellishment and Applique". RECOMMEND+++
What can I add to the previous reviews?... It's sad that Amazon doesn't provide info of the book content because if you could see what amazing the book is you wouldn't resist and buy it. Really really good and informative book and printed on a very good quality paper ....and every page is like an art work. I'm very happy with the purchase. It exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it!

The Art of Elegant Hand Embroidery, Embellishment and Applique
This is a beautiful book. Besides being well-written and full of easy to understand instruction, it is a piece of art in itself. I like the way it has the coil binding so that the book opens flat, yet also has the spine on the outside so that it will be easy to find on my bookshelf. I strongly recommend this book for beginners as well as advanced needleworkers.

very useful book
It is really Art of Embroidery and Embellishment!! I am completely agree with Barbara Rhoades. Would be helpful to have a "Look inside" option. What can we find in the book then? Suppliers, needleturn applique (all the methods). Embroidery: backstitch, basket filling stitch, basket weaving stitch, buttonhole stitch, blanket stitch leaf, buttonhole stitch raised, braid stitch, bullon stitch, buttonhole loops, cast-on stitch, chain stitches, circular rhodes stitch, cretan stitch, damask stitch, different stitches for the leaves and greens, macrame and needle weaving stitches, outline stitch and lots lots more. Buds, berries and flowers with fabric and ribbon, flowers centers, textured fabric, ribbon work and ribbon embroidery, using beads. Hands, face and hair, wired shapes. 4, 8, 16 inches blocks in the books and on CD, a few quilt projects. The book will be suitable for beginners, clear instructions, nice creative ideas. I bought this book for £18.00 and I am happy to have it in my collection.
