AudioBone earphones do work but only if one inserts foam earplugs to keep the wind out of the ears. Interestingly/Crucially, I could hear approaching car sounds better than when wearing in-ear phones EVEN THOUGH I had foam earplugs in. I am most interested to hear how these work underwater but to do this a waterproof casing will be needed to protect the iPod/MP3 player.As for sound quality: I could best hear music rich in bass and rhythm while the high register was muted by the wind when riding bike. ### ⭐⭐⭐ O.K.,but could be better. *by E*** on Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2009* I got these so i could listen to music while walking my dog,but yet still hear my surroundings ,such as other dogs,kids, etc. That part works well although the volume must be turned far up. what I had trouble with was getting them to fit properly with my long and ultra-thick hair, & when turning & bending,the "ear pieces" move to an incorrect position so i can't hear properly. I was about ready to send it back because I could not find any waterproof headphones that worked for me. No matter what I tried (and I tried a lot of things) I could never keep the water out of my ears and thus obliterating the sound. Although bone conduction sounded kind of gimmicky, I decided to give the Audio Bone a shot. I am really happy that I tried these! They are not perfect, but they are the only solution that has worked well enough for me to keep the shuffle.The Good:1. They stay in place. Flip turns and hard push offs do not move them out of position.2. Light and comfortable3. Good (not great) sound4. Have lasted a few months without any issues4. Consistent sound. Since a seal in the ear canal is not needed, the stereo nature of the sound is uninterrupted. No need to stop every lap and mess with (like the in ear units I tried).The Bad:1. Expensive compared to in-ear models2. Have to crank up the volume on the iPod to maximum in order to hear well. This causes the battery to need more frequent charging.3. Not very good for spoken word recordings. I just can't crank up the volume enough to hear podcasts well enough while swimming.4.
