In fact, this is my first review on Amazon. But I thought it was worth mentioning something about this product.First off, I'm interested in magnetic charging/data cables because I've broken 2 or 3 of them over the last couple months. I find that micro USB connectors are too easily fragile and breakable. I notice the two springs, once bent, functionally render standard micro USB cables useless. They tend to still function to charge but to easily slide out. In fact, I've grown to dislike micro USB because of this.I figured that buying more standard micro USB cables to be a waste of money, even the reversible micro USB cables on the device end. Sure, I'm glad the cables break rather than the device but I don't hear too many complaints about the more rigid Apple Lightning cables other than them being too expensive. Which brings me to the second motivation, like Lightning cords, these magnetic adapters tend to be reversible at the device end. Since tablets and smartphones require constant charging, it becomes a pain fiddling with proper insertion.Pros: Listed in no particular order1. The cable is high quality and appears durable. I like how both ends are encased in aluminum. This gives a premium feel. The cord itself is wrapped in nylon and seems more durable than standard plastic cables. This also gives the cord a premium feel.2. The magnetic adapter is a tight fit. I don't think this adapter will accidentally pop out and get lost.3. I have a mid-range Asus Zenfone 2 (2015) that has quick charging abilities. This cable supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, from my very limited testing. The LED is brighter when using a Quicker Charger.Note that I tend to charge with 1 amp wall adapters to limit heat exposure to the non-removable battery of my phone. I also find that my Zenfone 2 is relatively finicky with micro USB cables with on-screen incompatibility warnings. This cable has not given me any compatibility issues in the week I've owned it. In fact, I could even charge my wireless bluetooth headphones with this product.4. The magnetic connection is pretty strong. Sure, it can easily become disconnected but it is just as easy to re-connect. Just aim the cable in the general direction and it snaps in place (see the video review of another reviewer here for a demo). This is great for low-light conditions like prior to going to bed.Note: I changed my mind about the strength of the magnetic connection since I originally got the cable. See revision note below. Basically, it's okay but could be stronger.5. The cable and adapter are a relatively small diameter. I believe it will fit most cases, unlike the older ones like the older Wsken product that appears as wide as the aforementioned Apple Magsafe connectors. This is no bueno for most cases without ditching your case or modification.6. It comes with an integrated cable management system. Very nice. I was surprised to see this little piece of rubber was there to tie the cord up with. This makes traveling with the cable more friendly and it is short enough to not be annoying if you never use it. However, it is not removable without cutting it off to put onto another cord or re-attach it, unfortunately.7. The cord has the perfect length. It's neither too short or too long for a general purpose cord.8. Reversible at the device end unlike standard micro USB connectors. I love this.Cons: Listed biggest to smallest1. The most annoying thing about the cable is the intensity of the blue LED on the magnetic end. This thing is bright to the point it feels like a hole is burning though my retinas. I covered both sides with tape because the light is so bright--it even bleeds through the bottom end of the adapter. I use the bleed-through light as the power indicator instead, it's that bright. In fact, I don't know why the LED aspect wasn't better designed.This product is clearly Apple inspired, given the rose gold and silver color options, you would think that they would mimmic Apple's Magsafe power adapter light intensity. One option would be to intentionally design a ring at the base to accompany the bleed though by placing a semi-opaque piece of plastic to reduce intensity.As the LED is, I dislike using my phone when connected to it because it's too distracting.2. The product shown as reversible on the USB Type A side (i.e., the receptacle that goes in the power source). It is not. I was expecting the cable to be fully reversible on both sides. However, this is a minor annoyance if you leave it connected to a wall adapter.3. The magnetic adapter protrudes a bit more that I would like. The bulge is mitigated by cases but the thing sticks out very slightly more than my case. I'm hoping the thing doesn't get damaged in the long run due to being exposed outside my case.4. The base plastic looks and feels cheap. I mentioned the LED bleed through of this part already but this is the part that is between the nylon cord and metal ends. Basically, I'm unsure of the cable's durability at these points. I'm sure it will be okay, I'm just not super confident.5. The LED is only one color: blue. Apple's Magsafe adapters have two colors: 1. orange for charging and 2. green for full. Perhaps this is a technical limitation that cannot be easily implemented, but a two-color scheme would have been nice. Not a big deal though.6. I wish there was a black color option for both the cable and adapter. My case and phone are black; the magnetic adapter is white and gold. It would have been nice to have an all-black version. Again, not too much of a big deal; it's more of a personal preference. Silver is a good color though.Thoughts on accessory pricing:Overall, at the $12.99 price I bought it for, it is a good deal. I noticed that the price has gone up to $16.99 as of March 13, 2016 for the silver version. Sure, it's only 4 bucks more, but the cable is approaching $20. This is on the cusp of looking elsewhere than Amazon, personally.Considering that great mid-range Android phones are heading toward $150-250 mark these days, paying more than 10% of a phone's value for an accessory that's not a fancy battery case or an Otterbox starts to become a little too pricey in my opinion. But maybe I'm a biased cheapskate. I think I've seen non-branded versions of this cable elsewhere.Conclusion:I've written quite a bit about what most people probably consider a silly cable. You'd be surprised how much an accessory like this can improve your experience.This is a good cable, I'm glad I took the leap without many reviews before purchasing. Most of the reviews here on Amazon are for the other non-magnetic versions listed here. I think some of the reviews are not "pure" either; they were given to people for the purpose of a review. (I'm skeptical of any of these types of reviews no matter how unbiased they think or say they are. We all are, some are more than others.)Honestly, I'm surprised a product like this hasn't been around a lot longer ago. I imagine USB Type-C versions will be available in the future.Despite the relatively minor flaws of the cable, I'd give it a 4.0 to 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. Barring damage or losing the adapter end, this will probably be the last cable I use for this particular phone.Review note: I have not tested this cable for transferring data.Revision 2016 Mar 23 (Wed): After using this product more, I'd have to agree with others that the magnet is too weak. Neodymium would probably do the trick. But @ $12.99, I'd still give it a 3.0-3.5, even with the annoyingly bright LED. So I used it Friday night and I have to say, this is amazing. I want to buy one for my tablet now. The LED light isn't too bright like everyone says and the magnet is pretty strong. It would take some force for it to disconnect or move. And the price is decent and not expensive.
