The diameter of the inner core of wire is 1/16". the overall diameter is 2/16" or approximately 8 gauge. The inner core is made up of 7 strands of SS wire, then covered with nylon. This is very strong wire for the purpose intended, but it is not unbreakable. I have already had a large tree limb fall on the wire and it did break. Planning your runs and confirming your hardware usage prior to starting will allow you to be prepared for your job. More than likely you will need more cable ties if you are running more than two sets of 48’ long string lights. This kit also includes twist ties but I opted to get more cable ties locally. The turnbuckles allow you to tighten or loosen the cables if they stretch or you make the cables a little too long. I had no difficulty installing the cable run other than getting up and down the ladder. A second set of hands would help but is not required.
