Oh Dear! No Deer!
If your property has more than enough temporary fences and other deer barriers and still you have lost precious trees, shrubs, and plants to a hungry deer population, this book offers practical help. It begins by discussing the land itself, how you can shape the various elevations, create natural-looking pathways and barriers, and make browsing more difficult for these foraging creatures. The author uses most of the book to carefully introduce 50 deer resistant plants, shrubs, and trees. He gives the scientific and common names, the soil and light requirements, the hardiness zone spread, and an excellent photo for each of the fifty, along with discussions of their hybrid cultivars and their best companion plants. Oh deer! I can’t wait to get started planning my landscaping, using this book as my guide.

Misplaced Illustrations
I would've preferred pictures of the plant to be on the same page as the description. I like to see what I'm reading about first, not 2 pages after the information has been given. Not the author's fault by no means, but, just too bad the deer, just as humans, enjoy the more colorful flowers and plants, thus limiting the beauty of the illustrations. I did like that detailed information was given about the plants, ie, castor oil plant is poisonous and to the deers habits, likes and dislikes. Good info all the way around and intend on putting some of it to use soon.

Not for subtropical zones
My deer approved of this book. It includes very few plants that grow in Florida. I didn’t find it useful so returned it. I’m sure it’s good for folks up north and in parts of the west.

My Husband's New Favorite Gardening Book
I bought this book as a gift for my husband along with some gardening tools. He LOVES this book! We have lots of deer on our property who even eat plants and shrubs that are supposedly deer resistant, so there is no way that we want to plant those that are deer candy! At any rate, not only does this book have excellent information about the plants that deer don't eat, but it also gives you ideas about the plants similar to the one you are researching that go well with it. It makes it very easy to plan a garden with this book, even for the beginning gardener. That being said, it is great for advanced gardeners as well. My husband is pretty particular when it comes to books, and has many other gardening books, but this has become his favorite. He is very impressed with how thorough and well organized the book is. Highly recommend!.

A very helpful book.
I am planning a deer resistant island in my backyard. This book has been so helpful in designing the island and selecting plants that will hopeful reduce the amount of deer damage. It was well written, full of great information and easy to understand.

Good reference
I bought this book after checking it out from the library and wanted my own copy. I wish it would have strictly focused on perrenials instead of splitting it up with annuals included. I'm not as concerned with inexpensive annuals but it's a minor complaint. Overall a good reference if you live in deer country like I do.

Deer resistant plants
Very informative! Just maybe when I replace the perennials the deer ate/damaged last year will deter them if I follow the choices in the book.
