All dreams that can be remembered ultimately do seem "to come in the service of health and wholeness." Taylor-style Dreamwork combines a form of intimacy with respectful distance, because only by looking deep within "as if it were my dream" can a group member have anything to say about someone else's dream. So, each dream belongs to each member of the group -- in individual versions. This process is illustrated, with huge quantities of theoretical material tantalizingly presented. Quoting Taylor again, "I am a fanatic because I am convinced from 30 years experience. Don't take my word for it. I am the circus barker outside the tent, touting the wonders of 'Jo-Jo the Dog Faced Boy.' Come inside the tent and see for yourself." I agree. The emphasis here is on dream work in a group setting, exploring & explaining the advantages of this particular process, while warning against some of the potential pitfalls, especially for the inexperienced & ego-driven. Taylor places his focus on the healing aspect of dreams, sometimes edging a little too closely toward New Age thinking for my taste -- but that in no way invalidates the material he presents. He's quite open about his own personal preferences & even prejudices, and doesn't pretend to be all-wise & all-knowing. So the reader has a clear-eyed picture of what to expect going in, which I respect. For anyone who values the wisdom & self-knowledge to be found in dreams, this is an excellent resource; for anyone who doubts that dreams mean anything, this might just change your mind. Taylor comes across as warm, caring, and experienced in such work -- just the sort of guide you'd want when venturing into the universe of the Unconscious.
