I chose it for three reasons: 1. It's lightweight; 2. It uses AAA batteries (the same as my head lights); 3. It has several settings for brightness. This light works very well for this purchase. It mounted to the top loop in my REI Half Dome 2 Plus without a problem, the light had varying levels of intensity that were suitable for the situation, it was small and lightweight, and it did not dim or otherwise go out over approximately 8 total hours of use. It has found a permanent place in my backpack's lighting kit. My only complaint about this light is that you have to click through each setting, and the last two settings are emergency strobe settings. It can be slightly annoying to have the strobe go off, but that's not enough of an annoyance to give anything less than five full stars to this product. Review: Nice for the Price - I bought a 2-pack of these lights to temporarily light my dining room table. They hang from the existing dead light fixture by their cute little handles. The light diffuses nicely from them. Could be a little brighter, but they are bright enough to eat by. There are two brightness settings and a blinking setting, too. The only thing I don't like about them is that you have to cycle through all of the modes to turn them off.
