These beans have a strong vanilla sent and of all the different beans I tested to see which one made the best vanilla these beans came out on top. The beans are about 6 to 8 inches long and good quality and freshness for vanilla making. They’re perfect and everyone I gifted vanilla last year was disappointed I didn’t do it again this year! Lol I’ve included a picture of the latest bottle I currently have so you can see the beautiful dark rich color these beans make. I like to use rum when making my vanilla. The quantity is perfect for my needs.

**Q: Hi - I'm confused what 25 "splits" are.  Is each vanilla bean cut in half longways, meaning that really this is 12 1/2 whole vanilla beans?  Thanks!**
A: 25 whole beans that are partially split lengthwise.  I've got mine sitting in 5 cups of vodka right now! Color is coming along nicely after one week.

**Q: How many ounces of extract will 1 package of these beans make?**
A: 7 OZ.  The instructions on the package say to use 1 OZ of beans per CUP of extract.  The 10 pack of puny beans I received weighed .8 oz on my food scale in the packaging!  This means it's not even enough to do 1 CUP of extract if you follow their directions.

**Q: Why is 'bourbon' in the title of this product?**
A: The scientific name for Madagascar vanilla is V. planifolia but it is commonly called Bourbon vanilla because of the region of the Indian Ocean Islands that this vanilla bean comes from. It has nothing to do with bourbon alcohol, if that is what you were wondering.

**Q: Are these beans imported from a Fair Trade company?**
A: I believe so but I no longer have the wrapper so I cannot be 100% sure.

Have purchased these multiple times for making homemade vanilla extract - so simple and cost effective and makes my baked goods taste great.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very dry but great for extract

I have bought these a few times now. They are very dry (grade B beans have a varied level of moisture). I usually make vanilla extract with the pressure cooker method and they are perfect for that! The heat and the sealed jar turns out wonderful extract. Then I strain the extract and use the beans to make vanilla paste for baking. This time though I am using these beans in the long extract method, so in 6-12 months I'll be able to say how that worked out. This package has 50 beans. I made 5 jars of extract, each containing 8-10 beans that weighed 0.55 ounces per jar (so about 2.75 total oz in this package.) That should give you an idea of how much these weigh and how dry they are.
