I'm a 63 year old average strength male who hates getting his face and lungs close to cat litter boxes. This shovel is the solution! We chose to buy plastic tubs over typical small cat litter boxes because tubs have 11" sides compared to low sides on a typical cat litter box. The high tub walls reduce the amount of litter the cats can kick outside the tub. I cut down part of one wall (with a dremel) to make an entry for the cats. The high sides also make it easy to sift/shovel the litter with this large shovel. We only fill the tubs about 4 to 5" high with litter. It takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to completely clean all 3 tubs!I use a 13 gallon white trash bag and a couple 2 inch office binder clips attached to a waste basket to prevent the bag from collapsing as I fill it with waste. The bags get heavy quickly so I don't load much in each bag. A simple short rotation of the shovel side to side creates the sifting action needed to separate the litter from the waste. I think the manufacturer improved the handle based on some negative reviews about splinters. The handle on mine came sanded and varnished with no splinters. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Good - but could have been a 5-star product *by C***X on December 20, 2015* I love/hate this shovel. I would have given it 5 stars if the handle was not so poorly finished. The handle had many splinters and gouges ready to rip the skin off your hands. No reason at all to let this out of the factory. Poor quality control. I sanded the wooden handle and put many coats of polyurethane on it. Now it's OK but I had to put extra time and money into it. As far as function goes, it works exactly as I expected. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Poop in the Coop *by J***P on April 2, 2016* This rake is great for sifting chicken poop out of the sand coop. I would have given it 5 stars but the handle is not "finished", I managed to get a large splinter taking it out of the box. I'm sure I can fix it, but I shouldn't have to.
