Really cute. It poops cupcakes!
Not sure who enjoys playing with this more... Me or my 6 year old. I think it's me. The unicorn is cute. It eats cake and milkshakes and poops cupcakes. It also dabs 😂 Amazing. The games to play with it are also fun. I like that you can just put it to sleep whenever you want and it will sleep til you wake it.Nice update to the old Giga Pets from when I was a kid. Not sure the AR functionality is all that it's cracked up to be... That or I'm doing something wrong. Both plausible answers. The world may never know. In any case... Do yourself a favor and buy it. You'll have fun with it for a few weeks and then I suggest you remove the battery until you're ready to play with it again. Those battery replacements are expensive!

Nice take on an old toy.
Just started playing with this today, and it definitely brings back memories. You get to feed, groom, play, train, and discipline this super cute unicorn, just like the old giga pets. The nice thing is that it's doesn't only "beep" when it needs something, or is happy, it actually neighs. Another neat aspect is that when you keep the point level over 95, your unicorn grows wings, and is able to play an extra game. As you do certain things with your pet, it gives you a set of achievements you can access through the AR app for extra interactivity. I downloaded the AR app, and that's a nifty perk. On the app you can customize your pet by adding a design to its coat, change the color of this design, and change the color of the pet itself. I haven't done much else with the app, but it seems like it has some potential.

Very thorough review. Extreme detail.
This is new. Different. I am running this Unicorn at the same time as 3 (yes, I’m that 34 year old woman that hearts the 90’s) original Tiger units from 1997 and 1998. The game play between the three 90’s versions and the new unit is COMPLETELY different. If you’re looking to purchase this toy for a child younger than 8, please don’t. These new pets are more complex, dare I say, a tad more needy. It has a screensaver and when that screensaver is on, it doesn’t alert the caregiver that it needs anything. No neighs, beeps, nothing. There is no option to turn the screensaver off either. With as much as the unicorn moves around the screen (verging on erratic), I feel the screensaver is superfluous. The buttons are too soft or the space between the surface of the unit and the motherboard is too large. The buttons sink right inside, sometimes making selections difficult. With the old units, playing a game raised the pet’s happiness level whether you won or lost. With the new ones, if you don’t win, it lowers the happiness rating even more than it already was. That, paired with the screensaver issue almost guarantee a quick “death” for the pet. I have concerns about this fact affecting children’s mental well being. If they played a game with their pet and didn’t (or couldn’t, with the button issue) win and they kept trying, still not able to consistently win, the happiness level Of the pet would then plummet. This could make children feel guilty Or frustrated for being unable to make their pet happy and subsequently “dying” soon after. This is an issue that needs to be remedied immediately if this toy is going to reach any sort of comparable success as the 90’s units did. The noise when you press the buttons is jarring. I’d rather hear a beep as opposed to a sound I can only liken to tapping on An empty fish tank. The app is not necessary to play with your pet and honestly the app itself is a waste of coding. You can change the color of your pet and look at it. Changing the colors of your animal within the app does not affect the pet that is actually in your hand. When you connect your unit with the app on your mobile device, you see a “three dimensional” version of your pet and it stands there. That’s it. There is little to nothing making it interactive or making the term “augmented reality”, the AR at the end of the GigaPets moniker, necessary. While the list of cons is a bit lengthy, there are some good points. The realistic clip-clop sound the hooves make when the unicorn is running is cute. Among the cavalcade of various animations this particular animal does is “The Dab”. I found that charming until the 5,000th time of seeing it do so. The neighing sound is very realistic, the speaker isn’t tinny, the screen is bigger than other typical digital pets of it’s caliber. The stars emblazoned on the casing are very fun and add a bit of whimsy to the situation. Oh! I almost forgot... Instead of seeing an actual pile of... waste... when it uses the restroom, it excretes cupcakes. That was cute. The realistic eating when fed is nice. The animals do move more fluidly than I was expecting and that was very nice.Anyhow, this is getting ridiculously long and I am exhausted, so I’m going to wrap it up with this...Do I feel like it is a step in the right direction? Yes. Do I feel that it will hold a child’s attention for long after struggling to figure out how it operates? No. Sadly, I believe they will grow bored of it and give up.

Super dim, glitchy, possessed
Super cute and helps pass the time. Brought some memories frm back in the day for sure. I think that’s what these are more than anything, a good way to market the nostalgia of the 90’s kids.However... there is NO background light what so ever and it seems a bit glitchy..? But the lack of lighting has got to be the most frustrating! Definitely want to be in good lighting to play it.Update:I’ve had this stupid thing literally a month now... it is possessed... I hate this thing. It radomly will restart and make this crazy whooping huffing noise.. it’s like a furby. Won’t shut up. Will not change from the screen to set time, I can restart it 30 times-and it continues. I hate this thing lol i see my two and lower it one.. you get one now... stupid

Good for the money
It only lets you do a few things. There are other opinions but they want you to download something on your phone.

Nostalgic
Bought it so the kids would have a piece of my childhood. I used to love these things. They like them also. Amazing for the price.

Bargain for your money.
The best for your money, other similar items arethe same but way more expensive. The only difference between tamagotchi and this is the brand. Now, is you want 100% colorful image then go for the Tamagotchi Go. But at premium prices. My daughter just played with it for a week or two. She is not really into having to feed or play with a fake pet. If your kids don't interact with your living pet, neither with this.

Nice spin on an oldie
As a kid I loved my tamagotchi so I was really excited to see it was back! I got a unicorn for my daughter and a troll for my son. My kids had so much fun! However I was bummed it wasn't the kind that grew. I loved that part as a kid. My kids got a kick out of feeding it cupcakes and now carry it everywhere they go. It's a nice spin on an oldie.

Excellent throwback V-pet - Just ignore the AR!
So, I noticed these things have a lot of bad reviews and it's totally unfair and undeserved. I own 2 of these and they work excellently, the thing is the people having issues are having them because the battery in that comes in the device is very low on power. It's amazing how rather than changing the batteries like you would with any other device people instead throw an absolute wobbler and get all uppity. Just because this uses button cell batteries does not mean you shouldn't/can't change the battery and being told to change the battery as a fix is not rude. The company behind these devices is pretty new and so some supply issues are likely to happen. Once you replace the battery the device will work perfectly. (Don't be a childish idiot and beg for a refund or trash them please)So onto the actual review: This is a reboot of the old Giga Pets line, Giga Pets were one of the big competitors for tamagotchi in the original virtual pet boom. Giga Pets focused less on character evolutions and simple caretaking and more on having a fleshed out and more developed pet (some did evolve/change but this one doesn't). Instead of just filling hearts with a simple snack or mini game on the Giga Pets Unicorn you have to keep up 4 stats that go up to a hundred points. Doing different things like disciplining or teaching your Unicorn tricks will add points to the different stats. You can play mini games to raise their healthiness and happiness, keep them clean etc etc. These multiple interactions let you choose how you want to take care of the pet, trying to find your own optimal strategy. It's very fun and very true to the 90s style of non-tamagotchi virtual pets. Raising the unicorn feels satisfying because you have to work for it. Your unicorn will also wander about on screen, make cute horse noises and act according to how they feel (if they're sad they'll walk around with their head low and not want to do things). As an added bonus if you raise your unicorn's stats high enough they will become an alicorn! Unlocking an extra minigame and changing their appearance! These cute details really help make the pet what it is. A very deliberately crafted reboot of the Giga Pet pets.Obviously there are some small teething issues like learning how to raise each stat and what works best for what stat, so if you're giving this to a younger child it might be best to help them out a bit. You can also mute the sound if it annoys you. Honestly though my main gripe with this pet is the "AR" part. The AR is a kind of tacked on phone app that lets you play with a separate 3D 'pet' whilst it can be a little entertaining the AR does not do anything for the actual device and the fun of the app quickly wears thin. I appreciate what they were trying to do but I'm glad the upcoming releases will be canning this in favour of fleshing the pets out more. Even without the AR I still think this is a really great pet, as of writing there aren't really any v-pets that have raising the pet be the main challenge and so these are a very nice stand out.I guess to cut it short these are very fun pets, just make sure to read the instructions, change the battery and have fun!
