Review: Such an underrated figure! - Got my NECA Godzilla 1984 in today, my god does he look fantastic! which is sad all I hear is how NECA messed it up, Look Godzilla 1984 is a very difficult design to get good reference of. plus We should be happy to to get this figure at all, with all the companies that hold onto the film to this day that prevents it from being released in english dub (and leads me to pirate the movie, I hold no shame). This figure stands at the 6 inch scale. so it should scale well with most Bandai Godzilla figures, he's pretty damned durable and a lot of fun to pose and display. he's nicely sculpted, has decent paint, Mine came out looking quite nice in my opinion, but I just really hate the green paint they used to highlight the details. while most believe Godzilla is green, he is not, he's a really dark charcoal grey, and adding green just looks really bad on him, one thing I shall have to fix in a repaint, perhaps with a black dry brush to add details. of which, while NECA isn't as super articulated or detailed as say, S.H. Monster Arts, I have to say the figure benefits from it. Sometimes Too much articulation can hurt the sculpt. Now on to what I hear so many people Bitch about. First off we'll talk about the head. when NECA originally showed the prototype the head was tiny and was very cat like. upon the cry of fans they sculpted a larger more screen accurate one. while that was awesome of them, I feel the head may have been made too big. though as I look at photos from the film, Godzilla 84 did have a rather big head. but it's hard to say. Next is the Chest, many have said the chest is too small and not broad enough, While I agree, I do think they may have been counting the shoulder and arms into account. the many videos I've watched the reviewer had the figures arms splayed out out, often sticking straight up. however in the films Godzilla isn't known to sprawl his arms out, this figure is best displayed with the arms closed to the chest, and wouldn't look as goofy. Then there is the tail which is rather short, even I can't get past this. it seems to be an issue with all of NECA Godzilla figures, but what I like is they are using the four segments that are connected by balljoints, with the last half of the tail being bendy wire articulation. I think they should do the whole tail that way so it's more cohesive. or do it all segmented. either way will work. Lastly, is the dorsal plates. they aren't as bad as people think, it's all about how you angle the body. which I've showed in the pictures. most reviewers I see arch the body back, making the dorsal plates look too small. but if you lean him over so the plates are properly spaced from each other, they look alot better. i will say they should be bigger but otherwise I think they look fine. In the end, I love this figure. but in the end it's not my choice. if you want to buy it, get it. Review: Affordable Awesomeness! - This is my first NECA Godzilla figure. The only other NECA figure I have is Knifehead. Both are phenomenal. NECA makes very study, durable, and well made figures with pretty decent detail which is somewhere between Bandai and S.H. Monsterarts. NECA is now above Bandai as my favorite Godzilla figure supplier, even though their variety isn't exactly huge as of yet. But I LOVE this guy and he fits right into my collection. They are awesome and far more affordable than S.H. At first I was not sure what I was going to get, but am I glad I got this figure. They did a fantastic job with this and it is not something your going to find from SH Monster arts for this price.
