Yes I know you can put the grounder on the top, but this is how the house came, and I am not an electrician) it has to go around and to the left instead of a straight shot. There simply is no way to plug it in where it lays properly. And before you ask, no, there are no plugs I can use to the left of the appliance. I'll use a left or right angled plug depending on which direction the cord will go from the outlet. These are very nice cords. I had a minor issue with one in that the 3rd receptacle (ground) on one cable was very tight.
