If You Dont Succeed The First Time ..Try Try Again.

Ordered the LG BD 590 and receiverd it in about 3 days. I purchased it as I wanted to do NETFLIX because I am fed up with Cable TV as well as Directv and Dish TV and just braodcasting in general. I can't handle the comericals any longer. It totally destroys any movies you might be watching as well as any interestig programing. The LG is located in my living room with my extreamly large Vintage Marant Seperates in a 5.1 set up. What I liked about the LG BD 590 is that it has the Wi-Fi built in. My Router and cable modem are located about 50 feet away in my Home office. The set up for the LG was easy. After enerting my router password the LG locked right on.For the next 4 days I enjoyed NETFLIX moives on my TV. The quality of the reception was excellent. How ever..NETFLIX does not stream "Dolby 5.1" or "DTS". They do stream Dolby 2.0 or Stereo. After speaking with NETFLIX I was told they are working on doing 5.1 in the future. Now the Bad News..... On the 5th day I sat down after dinner with a nice Cigar to watch a NETFLIX movie. I hit the Power button on the LG ....and Na-Da. ..Dead!!! Nothing. As some one who has worked in the Live sound business doing repair on Professional Audio gear as well a s mixing and working live sound, I know when a Power supply takes a dump. All the new gear now a days uses "Swich Mode Power Supplies" which are more effiencent and are less weight compared to the old IRON Core Transformer power supplies. However they run at such High temps that they are prone to failure unless properly cooled. The heat comes from the high speed switching transistor in the power supply. The LG does have a Fan mounted on the rear to keep the power supply cool and prevent overheating and failure. Alot of equipment does not, as they rely on large internal heat sinks to disapate the heat. The failure in my first LG BD 590 was due to a defective component in the power supply. ..Just Ramdom Bad Luck. It can happen to any new piece of electronic gear in the first say 30 days or so. Once you pass that 1 week to 30 day mark your home free. Save the Box and all the Packing.I went onto Amazons site and found the return section ...filled out the form. Amazon Sent out a new unit the very next day and gave me 30 days to return the failed one. The next day I packed up the failed LG and returned it via UPS for free as Amazon emailed me a no charge UPS return Lable. Can't beat that! Three days later I had a new in the Box LG BD590 at my door. It's been fine ever since. It's a great Player for the money and seems to have the best reviews. Also Amzon had the best price.So..I'm happy with the options on the LG Player for DVD and Wi-Fi ing. I would recommend this unit to my friends. Nice piece. Do your research and check around for pricing. But I think you'll find that Amazon has the best price ....but more importantly ..there return policy.Also...when you place any of your equipment in its final place...make sure air can move around and thru your equip

ment...Power suppy faliures account for 90% of all faliures.Don't be fooled by very low prices.. If something goes wrong with your equipment in the first 30 days, You want a company like AMAZON in your corner. They have proved to me that their customer service on the internet is the best. And I didn't end up holding on the phone in INDIA.

Mostly outstanding, but there are some drawbacks.

*by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2011*

I'm no Blu-Ray expert. This is my first player, and so, while I'm floored by the picture quality (even in how it upscales my DVDs -- I mean the menus even look fantastic), there are some minor drawbacks I feel people should know about. Granted, I'm still very satisfied with the player, but I've also seen issues that might be deal breakers for other people:1. Absolutely NO input ports. I don't know if this is normal for Blu-Ray players, but DVDs and VCRs used to always come equipped with AT LEAST one input port where you could play other video and audio devices through it. Most HD TVs come with a limited number of inputs (my 44" Vizio only has one componant input and one RCA cable input), so if your Blu-Ray player can't take on any more of them, you may have to forget hooking up the Wii, your iPod, that old video game system, or your prehistoric video cassette player.2. Upgrades are tedious. The system first tells you an update is available and requires you to hit "okay" to look for it, then spends five minutes locating it (sometimes it's successful; other times it's not) and then requires you to hit "okay" again, then spends twenty to thirty minutes downloading the update and requires you to hit "okay" again, then spends another twenty to thirty minutes installing the upgrade. That's about an hour of having to sit there and keep hitting "okay" when it easily could have automated all or most of the upgrade process without you being present.3. I really don't like the home menu. The graphics are exceptionally primitive (odd for a top of the line Blu-Ray player where the entire purpose is great picture quality), and yet the controls are exceptionally sluggish when moving between options.4. Netcast options. I'm a big fan of having Netcast options (being able to effectively go online through your Blu Ray to enjoy a number of services), and I'm not complaining about how Netcast is done on this player, overall, but there are some things you should probably know. - Most of the netcast options are not free services. This won't be news to anyone who's ever had a device with online apps before, but if you haven't, you will need to set up accounts to use most of this stuff, and they have subscription fees. I believe only Youtube and the weather service are free. By the way, this is the best media device interface I've seen for Youtube yet. - Netflix. Netflix is a big draw for most people looking for internet apps, but there are at least two different Netflix apps out there, and this is the more primitive one. There is no search function. All you can do is browse a limited selection of titles in different genre categories. All searching for titles must be done through your computer and added to your queue list from there. - No world wide web. Internet and world wide web are not the same thing. You will not be able to access a web browser and use it to view web pages through this player. You can only access the web services that are specifically programmed into the player.Honestly, these are minor setbacks for most people and, for all I know, they're common to most or all Blu-Ray players. Like I said, I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. I just thought people should be aware of these issues.
