(2.5 : 1) Jesmonite is a versatile range of water-based, solvent free composite materials ideally suited to the creation of decorative mouldings and glass reinforced laminates. These materials have a range of unique properties, which contribute to strength, durability, non-toxicity, and the ability to comply with many of the necessary test requirements of the construction industry, specifically those in regard to fire performance and impact resistance. Jesmonite AC100 is an Acrylic Composite material supplied in two parts, a powder and a liquid. It is suitable for both decorative castings and glass reinforced laminates, and can be pigmented using the Jesmonite range of water-based pigments. It is also possible to add a range of decorative and functional fillers in order to achieve a wider range of effects and to meet a broader spectrum of specifications. Jesmonite AC100 can be used both internally and externally, although external use requires the application of a suitable sealer or external paint system for long-term exposure. It is fire-resistant, having achieved a Class '0' fire rating under UK Building Regulations BS476 (Parts 6&7). Due to its solvent free formulation, AC100 can be cast without damage to rubber moulding compounds, and without limitation to scale. It is also dimensionally stable due to low exothermic reaction, and produces a small amount of expansion on set (1mm/ linear metre). AC100 is supplied in separate containers of liquid and powder, and mix ratios are variable to allow for both decorative and functional fillers. After 15 min, when it reached hardness, it was quite warm, like 40 degrees, and really, I didn’t measure it, and not idea what happen in the next 24 hours (which is the time for curing). **Q: Is it food safe?** A: This is the statement from the manufacturers; I can confirm that all Jesmonite materials are non-solvent and contain zero VOC’s. Please be aware that we have never tested any Jesmonite products for food safety. For AC730 casts I usually use a brand called H-Seal, it’s a concrete countertop sealant, its food safe, UV resistant, high temperature resistant and of course waterproof. So it looks like they are safe, however have never been tested to be certified as such. **Q: Roughly what volume does this kit make?** A: Based on the wet density stated by the manufacture of 1.845 a 3.5kg kit would make approx 1.89 litres in volume. **Q: Is this white?** A: No is not. I tried it so I could use an alternative to resin sometimes, but wanted something that was still durable for practical and useable pieces. Jesmonite is easy to use, no toxic fumes, cures really quickly, and creates beautiful, strong pieces. MB Fibreglass is the company I always order from, either direct or via Amazon. It has a lovely flexibility in how you can use it. Embedding, layering, cold casting, colour and stain. It does have issues with bubbles, but with care, brushing your molds with it first and I'm sure with degassing techniques you can get rid of most issued. Thankfully you can mix alittle to act as a great moddl filler too, adheres well to it self for repairs too. Sets quickly and gains strength over the next 24 hours. It's also non toxic, so it's more art friendly than plastic resin.
