Great concept but gets an asterisk for poor quality control

Second item I've had to review this week with positive feelings but a major asterisk about quality. Fly Pedals are a great concept, far superior to the plastic clip-in adapters that nearly require a sledgehammer to remove. The platform ids stable, stays clipped on when you want it on, kicks off easily with a twist when you want it off. Note to those using SPD-SL cleats: I recommend using the yellow or blue (some float) cleats as I used red and have noticed that without a little float I sometimes kick the adapter loose more easily than I wanted. This is my own fault- I use yellow for my bike shoes but thought I'd be better off with no float for the adapters. Now the asterisk... on each adapter one of the holes drilled into the aluminum platform wasn't threaded properly and you can't quite get the cleat mounting screw to seat. If you remove the retainer (the rectangular "washer" that drops into the cleat recess) then you can get a partial grip on the cleat with the screw, and since the platforms are less demanding of cleat stability than my racing/touring shoes I'm not returning them, but for an expensive "boutique" sort of product this is very disappointing quality.

    An OK solution

They work as advertised, but have some drawbacks that I don't like. I use them on Shimano SPD pedals. I notice that I have to tighten the pedal's release tension in order for these to stay attached if I'm wearing a shoe with a grippy sole (which is most of the time). Otherwise, the pedal will twist and disconnect when I stand up to pedal or when I'm pulling my foot off for a stop. Also, since they only attach to one side of the pedal, they flip over with the Fly Pedal on the bottom and are hard to flip over and get your foot into. Way harder than a dedicated campus pedal that has the platform on one side and the clipless binding on the other. And, if the tension isn't cranked up, I find that the fall off frequently when I'm trying to get them flipped over. Overall, they work ok for short rides on the bikes that I don't want to put a campus pedal on. But, if I have the option and/or need to use them frequently, I'll put on the campus pedals.

if you most frequently ride with your cycling shoes - but occasionally want to toss some platforms on to wear your street shoes

*by D***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 30, 2015*

Loving these pedals so far. I have Crank Brothers Egg Beaters and these have been a simple solution to the "Dang, I don't wanna wear my riding shoes today" problem!Only complaint (not Fly Pedals fault) is that they extra weight of the pedal naturally causes the pedal to flip upside down when your foot is not on it. It does take some extra concentration when remounting your bike to get your foot in position. If you are stopping & starting frequently, you might want to consider an alternative set-up.However, if you most frequently ride with your cycling shoes - but occasionally want to toss some platforms on to wear your street shoes - these are a great solution. You might also be able to figure out a way to rig up something that could clip into the egg beater opposite of the pedals that would be heavier than the pedal, causing the platform to stay upright. This would naturally add weight and an extra step to this process - but if you were creative there might be a solution out there!
