The coffee tastes better than just simply running it through the metal filter - I use both and it is much easier to clean out the coffee grinds. I just simply folder over the top and throw it in the compost bin. This also cuts down to zero the amount of coffee grounds ending up down my sink - coffee grounds are deadly to a sink as they never break down.
