Sooth Your Migraine Icy Cold Pain Relief Review: The relief you need and ready when you need it - This band has been a godsend. I have suffered from both sinus headaches and migraines for well over 20 years. I used to wear one of those old school gel masks that covered your eyes and attached with a strap in the back. The problem with those is that the gel moved all around, the plastic was not at all comfortable and getting a tight fit was difficult. Additionally, depending on the location of pain, using it effectively anyway other than how it was designed was very difficult. I am also no stranger to using a bag of frozen peas for relief. I stumbled onto this product by accident while browsing desertcart and placed an order immediately. My headaches are unpredictable and I wanted to have this ready to go when the next one struck. Popped it into the freezer and waited. The first thing that impressed me is because of the design it is easy to lay flat in the freezer whereas the masks I used in the past seemed to bunch up and be uneven. This is one of those products that you hope you do not need right away, but alas, I first used it a few days later. When suffering from a migraine, I have pain both behind my right eye and at the base of my skull on the same side. Like someone it trying to pull a string through my head. I was able to angle the band so that it covered both areas at the same time, again something I was not able to do with previous products. The added advantage is that I was able to adjust the tightness of the band and counter pressure definitely helps me. I used the blue side against my skin first and then switched to the white side. The white side is considerable colder which gives you some options depending on your needs. The band stays cold for about 30 minutes. The only negative I have to offer is that I wish it remained cold for longer. 30 minutes was enough to provide relief, along with medication, but not long enough to wait out the headache. And, really, sometimes all you can do is wait it out. I will probably invest in one more band so that I can switch out and have more continuous coverage. It takes about 30-60 minutes to freeze again when needed. Although designed for headaches, I see potential use as a general ice pack in a pinch. It is long enough to be wrapped around a wrist or ankle at least twice in case of a strain or sprain. I can't seem to find refill packs ;-(** A: It is all one unit. You put the whole thing in the freezer. If you buy two you should be fine. It sounds as if you should also start using Trace Minerals Research "Mega Mag" Liquid Ionic Magnesium Chloride since your nerves are oversensitive. Also having headaches is an indication that you have too much calcium in the cells in your head (dura) and neck where headaches occur. Magnesium supplementation with a well absorbed magnesium chloride like "Mega Mag" will help calm the nerves and lessen the occurrence of headaches and also make your temperature sensing nerves less sensitive, so this wrap will not feel too cold. (and no, I do not get any money from Trace Minerals Research company. I just had gone through years of migraines and finally found out that I have a genetic double mutation (CBS 699 mutation) that makes too much sulfur and phosphorus accumulate in my body. This then pulls in too much calcium into my non bone cells (soft tissue calcification). Calcium increases the electrical firing of the nerves and makes them oversensitive which can lead to pain. If you supplement with magnesium, that keeps the calcium in the bones and out of the soft tissue cells. Magnesium then gets into the soft tissue cells and calms them down and the nerves then are less sensitive and you have less pain. (Magnesium lowers the electrical firing of the nerves, thus calming them)You can also order Ancient Minerals Magnesium oil (topical oil for outer use only/ do not ingest) and rub this oil on your forehead and neck and shoulders and it will absorb through skin and relax the muscles in the area and help get rid of the headache that way.I had bad migraines where I could not even get out of bed and would throw up, and because my liver is weak, I could not take any pain meds, because my liver could not break them down and they would not work and just make me more ill. So I found out about the magnesium (the Mega Mag and the Magnesium oil ) and started using it, in conjunction with using ice to freeze and "put to sleep" the aggravated nerves in my head and neck and shoulders. This ice thing works great, but now after having taken the magnesium for a while, I no longer get headaches at all unless I accidentally eat something High in msg, or high in calcium, or high in vitamin D or high in phosphorus. Now that I avoid those foods and take my magnesium daily (CBS people are very magnesium deficient) I never get headaches. I don’t blame the product for that. At the price point, it does what it needs to do. And it’s nice and cold. But yes, it thaws very quickly, and it doesn’t seem too insulated. If you buy more to cycle through for a constant cooling effect, that is your call versus purchasing a more expensive brand that is more insulated and remains frozen for longer. It depends on whether you want to keep getting up during your migraine/whatever it is you’re using it for. I personally use it for migraines, so it was a little frustrating to get such a small amount of relief.
