It absolutely did NOTHING to pull them out, except make a big hole. I couldn't figure it out. Then, I decided to try something: I had tried both the smallest size and the next one up, to no avail. With the hole created from the second smallest size, I then used the opposite end of the next size UP to back it out. You're supposed to just flip the same bit over and use the same bit to bore/remove, but in my case, I had to bore with one size and back out with the next largest. Lo and behold, it worked.
