From Baz Luhrmann--the director of the award-winning hits Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge!--comes Strictly Ballroom… the hilariously funny romantic comedy that’s sure to leave you laughing, cheering and feeling great. It’s the magical story of a championship ballroom dancer who’s breaking all the rules, and his ugly duckling dancing partner. Together they make their dreams come true.

I Want To Break Free...
Hot on the heels of Dirty Dancing comes another fun filled dance movie! Scott Hastings (Mercurio), is an amateur competitive ballroom dancer, longing to break free from tradition, and take things up to the next level by transcending dance federation tradition, and reinterpreting the genre, and his unique approach costs him his dance partner, Liz, when he loses a competition on account of answering to the dictates of his soul. So Liz ends up pairing off with the darling of the Dance federation (And a sleazy booze hound to boot!), Ken Rawlings, so, the search is on to find Scott a new partner for the next competition. Meanwhile, a beginner, Fran, having covertly watched him let off a little creative steam in the dance studio his mother runs, after everyone has left for the evening, asks him to teach her how to dance 'his' way. So they train up in secret. But, amid a series of misunderstandings, things don't go according to plan, thanks to the interference of his friends and family. But, through a chance meeting with Fran's father, Scott gets to truly connect with the type of dancing he was born to do. I won't spoil the rest of the film in case you haven't seen it, but, the end dance sequence is wonderful, and it's got a great soundtrack too. It's spellbinding, and the dancing is a wonder to behold.

I have loved this move since I first saw it
I have loved this move since I first saw it. The story is about a young man who is following the family tradition of ballroom dancing. The problem is he likes to do you own steps that are not sanctioned. His partner quits and he is convinced to by a still learner at the studio he practices, to team up with her and do his own steps. It is a feel good movie that has some very funny characters in it. When I am down I watch this to lift my spirits and listens to good music.

Seems OK
Some of the writing on the dvd cover front/back is in Korean and the film seems to auto play with Korean subtitles but is still English speaking; not dubbed. I personally watch films with eng subtitles anyway just so I don't miss anything so when you change it to English subs, it works fine. Film quality I think is fine. Only briefly tested the dvd once I received it to make sure all is OK as didn't obviously check the info properly before buying. Added to my baz lurman collection! ❤️🗼🐘💃

No subtitles
This is one of my favourite films, was looking forward to sharing it with my husband tonight, but alas there are no subtitles so as I'm hearing impaired I cannot watch this.

Epic
One of my all time greats. A classic for me. A story that never ages. And a film I can watch over and over. The passion and emotion that ebbs from the acting is for me, amazing. Is it about just dancing, no. Is there a story, hell yes. Goes deeper than just winning a silly competition... its about the sacrifices a parent makes for their child to go further than did. Reach their potential and go beyond. Touching others lives and steering your direction onto a totally different path. An ugly duckling is revealed. An tyrannical monster is confronted. And just when you think its all over, it isn't. When there is silence we need to listen to the rhythm within?

Lovely story with a bit of ballroom glitz and blitz
Bought this after hearing about it on Strictly Come Dancing. Kevin Clifton said it was favourite film of all time and thought it would be nice to watch over Christmas with my wife. Not really a film about dancing but a pleasant Aussie film with a bit of glitz and glamour and presenting the tough life of trying to win in a dog-eat-dog world of ballroom dancing. Really enjoyed it.
