Enjoy Your Cells: (Enjoy Your Cells Series 1)

Highly recommend
SUCH a big hit! My 6-year-old loves this series so much that he is not only explaining the science to everyone he meets, but he's re-creating the "Bone" comic book series as "Cells" (complete with "germ creatures" instead of "rat creatures," etc.)The information is a good balance of interesting and detailed, but not over-complicated, and the graphics are bright and engaging.

Simple enough to get the kids interested in science
This is a cute book. I ordered it among many at the beginning of the pandemic because my kids school had no plan. The kids enjoyed reading this book. It was simple easy and non threatening as some educational books seem. The still enjoy reading it time to time.

This book rocks
That title is from my son, now 8. We got him this book when he was 4 and he was immediately taken by it. We (parents) are both molecular biologists and one of us ran across it at a meeting, where we picked it up. We have since bought gift copies for other children. It is by no means comprehensive, but it is entertaining and educational. FWIW, I brought it to his first-third-grade classroom and the fertilization part didn't trigger any questions about anatomy. From my son:My favorite page is the one with all the sperm swimming toward the egg. The one that gets in says "I'm spermtastic." The pictures are good and it's a funny joke. The other sperms say "I can't swim," "Wait for us," "Let us in," "All this way for nothing!" and "Yeah."I also really like the next page, where the sperm that got in says "Now we are just one cell." The other sperms say "Sob," "Smug sperm," "Bah," and "We're too late."My other favorite part is where everyone is guessing how many cells are in a human. The dinosaur says "I thought I was made of Latex." I like it because it's a joke. Get it? The dinosaur thinks he's made of plastic.I like this book because I learned a lot and it is funny.

but that was fine because we wanted to go through some basic cell ...
I bought this book to read to my 5 year old, he wanted to know about dna. The books only gives the very basic info on that, but that was fine because we wanted to go through some basic cell biology with him. The book was very detailed and helpful with its pictures to explain these concepts to my son.

Not what I expected ...
Wow, this book was not what I expected!Let me give you some background about myself. I have a B.A. in Biology, a B.A. in Chemistry, and a M.S. in Chemistry (Research). I have taken an entire class on the cell and researched cellular membranes in graduate school. I bought this book for my children and to share with the children at their school through a science club that I am teaching. In addition to a little bit about cell function there is a multi page blurb about sexual reproduction. They do not get graphic and talk about body actions, but it does talk about the sperm and ovum from dad and mom. One of the pictures shows one sperm that has just penetrated an egg that says "I'm spermtastic". I can discuss this with my fourth grader, but I am not comfortable sharing this with other people's children. If I use it, I will have to skip over this section. What the book does not include, and should if they are going to have a section on embryology and fetal development, is any information on cell replication (i.e. meiosis and mitosis). I was also disappointed that the only organelle it mentioned was the nucleus. To me this book is very incomplete and includes some extra stuff that really doesn't need to be in there or that should be done more tastefully. This book was obviously not what I was looking for and it really disappointed me.I would like to see a book that defines a cell, explores what is inside the cell (organelles), talks about cellular replication, and discusses the specialized function of different cells and how they have adapted to these roles. Bundle this into a kid friendly book and I will buy it!

Great series!
My almost- 5 year old loves these whole series of books and has me read and re-read, and is talking with scientific vocabulary and asking questions that surprises other adults who I presume haven't seen these books. Great illustrations. Very happy I purchased, and I assume they will be in use for years to come!

Great educational book!
Very good at teaching children about cells. Great for Montessori teaching for older kids probably. Got this book for my nephews.
