Varying Results - Be Careful With This Product!
I'm not sure what is in this stuff.. The SDS says that there is nothing harmful as defined by OSHA. I don't know if that is just because the concentration is low enough or what, but it does say it will etch glass, which a lot of acids won't. This lead us to think that it may be hydrofluoric acid, which is some real nasty stuff. The valve covers and intake parts are off of a Subaru engine. I soaked those parts for 15-20min in a 1:4 ratio of Alumanew to water and then pressure washed the black residue off. I also tried to soak the engine block, which is all aluminum except for the iron cylinder walls. I got mixed results on the block. It still required scrubbing. I wouldn't recommend using it on a disassembled engine block or cylinder heads, because this stuff will get into every hole and passage and require using brushes and WD40 to get it out and stop the reaction.Definitely wear protective gear, eye protection, long sleeve gloves and use it outside if you're using it in a stronger ratio than recommended. You'll definitely want to use eye protection while washing the parts off. While soaking your parts you'll notice bubbling/foaming and an increase in temperature of your solution. I noticed some eye and nose irritation when I got too close to it. Stay upwind of it when pulling the parts out or soaking it. Just do it outside away from where you're working or waiting.Whatever you soak will come out with a black residue all over it. Using a pressure washer will take it right off, otherwise you will need to use a brush and/or fingers and fresh water to clean it off. This stuff will also strip the protective plating off of steel parts/nuts, bolts.Would I use it again or recommend it? Depends on how intricate the parts are and how many deep holes/passages there are. I soaked the water inlet housing, which is all aluminum with no steel attached to it and I was surprised at how well it cleaned all of the build up off of it. It's worth giving it a try if you're ok with the dull aluminum finish. Just be careful using it and wear appropriate PPE like I said before.

Unbelievable results!
I have never given a review on anything but was very impressed with these results! No scrubbing at all. at first I thought I ruined the toons. It turned white and was streaking. I then realized I has to spray and drench the toons and couldn't believe the results! Just drench wait a minute and hose off! I have some aluminum polish now to shine them back up!

Works, but don't expect miracles.
Used for pontoon boat that had about 8 years of freshwater lake build up. Read directions and mixed the ratio and sprayed it on, but it didn't do too much, and just left it really spotted. Increased the ratio each time and ended up using a brass soft brush to remove the build up along the water line. Even then it wasn't coming off. This stuff just seemed to turn the lower half water build up darker. After I lightly used the brass brush on the top half, I used it again and it seemed to foam up right away and made the top half a look half decent, but under the water line it didn't seem to work and I pretty much gave up. It did improve the look of the top sections however, and I was able to lower the ugly water line build up with a sander. I would say, if you have a lot of hard water build up, you Will definitely have to increase the ratio by a good bit to get it to do anything.

This Stuff Cleans & Brightens Aluminum
I tried several different products that claimed it would clean my 6 ft. long aluminum diamond plate tool box. They proved to all be a waste of time & money. This product was super easy to apply and the results were miraculous. I diluted it 4:1 and brushed it on with a wide natural bristle paint brush applying it several times over the whole surface then waited no more than 5 minutes and rinsed off with clean water and dried with a towel. It leaves a slightly hazy finish because of the highly acidic ingredients not a 'polished' finish one would get using aluminum polish but for a toolbox that had never been cleaned in 25 years that was good enough. I have almost 3/4 of the gallon left so a little goes a long ways.
