Tool works, coupler works. Don't waste time making your own tool. Avoid scratches.
I HIGHLY recommend getting a coupling tool. I tried to make my own tool out of a couple different thickness of scrap metal. They were too thin and just bent without loosening the coupler. A standard open end wrench is too thick to fit in the gap between blender and coupler. The interwebs have some recommendations to just to pry it off with a screwdriver. The theory is that the coupler/clutch metal is soft and will just bend off. Probably true, but what about the threads? Will it increase wear on the threads? Will it leave debris in the threads that will cause problems or damage at high speed? Why risk it? At least that's my thinking on the matter.I spent at least an hour making multiple tools and another 30 minutes fighting with it. All failed miserably and I actually put radial scratches on the top of the blender under the coupler trying to twist it off. I almost put visible scratches on the top of the blender where they could be seend when I realized this was stupid. I finally gave up and just bought this spanner wrench tool and coupler combo. As soon as it arrived i used the wrench to remove the old coupler. The new clutch/coupler was installed in about 30 seconds. No exaggeration. No more scratches. You can probably make a tool yourself that will work but is it worth the time, effort and frustration, and potential aesthetic damage to your blender? Not to me. I tried it. Get the tool. Its cheap. Then you are done. This particular tool/coupler combo was the best deal at the time I bought it. I think the tools are all pretty much the same.

Saved my blender. and the wrench made it simple
Quick, cheap, and easy fix to my blender. Glad the wrench came with it. Saved me from the "bang it off" method some online videos recommend. You may need a pair of pliers once you've grabbed the drive with the wrench. But taking off the older coupler is pretty easy. Just remember it has reverse threads so it's righty loosy, lefty tighty.

Brought an old blender back to life!
Perfect for bringing our old blender out of the discard pile. The old drive coupling had disintegrated, this replacement fit perfectly and was easy to install.

Easy fix - and comes with a spare.
This item seems to work just fine. I bagged the extra one and the little wrench and put them in my “spares drawer.”Haven’t used it - can’t speak to reliability, but it looks like good quality. I killed the original while chopping up dried red chiles for enchilada sauce - worth it. :-)

A weak link in an otherwise superb machine!
The original part that carried the power from the motor to the blender blades had literally melted into a blob of I'm not sure what. Plastic? Rubber? It was tricky figuring out what part I needed for the replacement, but with enough research, I chanced this one—and it is perfect in every way—and reasonable at about $3. When buying such a part, the trick is to be sure that you are buying the correct part for your machine; if so, you cannot go wrong. Fast delivery too!

Perfect Part with Handy Mini Wrench
Once I got my old, broken part off of my KitchenAid blender, it was very easy to install this replacement part. I had watched a YouTube video on how to remove this part. I should have watched several videos and read about the procedure. I think that I made it more difficult than necessary. I’m glad that I bought this item because I’m ready for any future repairs, if needed.
