The "penny whistle" should be called a "ten-dollar whistle" in today's degraded currencies but it is still the least expensive, fully-capable musical instrument you can buy with nice tone and a surprisingly sophisticated playing technique. You can learn to play simple tunes in a matter of hours but advanced play requires years of practice. This is a cheap but perfectly playable "D" whistle and a nice introductory instruction book with example tunes on a CD. It is a very good way to get started on playing the whistle for around $20. The book does not go very far but it will get you started and it does cover the basics of reading music which many books assume that you already know. Since it also has fingering diagrams and the example disk, it can be used by those who plan to play by ear and are not interested in reading music. Once you work though the music in this booklet, you will know if you are serious about this great little instrument and you can move on to one of the more comprehensive books.

This is a great beginning Tim Whistle with a CD that guides you to hear the proper tunes/sounds and a book that even music novices will find quite helpful. Like any music instrument it takes time to learn breath, fingering and note patterns. I have found this set to be very helpful. There are also a number of YouTube instructional videos that are excellent supplements to this pack. Now if you want to play like the pros you will need to do two things. First, find a band to play with. Second, have fun.

I misunderstood the order. I thought it was 3 whistles in different keys, but 'triple pack' means 3 items. Nevertheless, it will make a nice Christmas gift for my niece.

This little whistle is great! It comes with a CD and a book for you to learn basic melodies, lots of fun!!!The only problem I got was,; when it was shipped a bubble wrap envelope was used not protecting the instrument and it was received bent, I contacted the seller and they replaced it immediately.

The book is easy to learn the basics from but would of also been nice to have a DVD teaching and explaining how to play. It's nice having the CD to hear how it should sound when playing. Was hoping for more Irish tunes in this book.
