Product description Agar agar is a natural vegan and vegetarian substitute for gelatin and can be used in desserts such as jelly, puddings and custard. It can also be used in vegan friendly confectionery such as jelly sweets. Agar agar is a colourless, odourless and flavourless ingredient and can be a like for like replacement for generic gelatin. It is popular in Asian cuisine, particularly in Japan. It can be used to create anmitsu - a Japanese dessert that consists of small cubes of agar jelly often served with fresh fruit. It can also be used in bubble tea - a popular Asian inspired drink. Tip: Use 1 tsp of agar agar per 1 cup of juice and add ¼ cup sugar to make a basic jelly. How to make vegan jelly In a clean pan, add 1/4 cup of sugar with 1 tsp agar agar and 1 cup fruit juice (i.e strawberry) Remove from the heat and add extract if desired to increase the flavour Allow to cool for a few minutes stirring continuously Pour into bowls or moulds and smooth the tops with the back of a spoon to prevent bubbles Refrigerate to set.
