Very racist book!
The author suggests that black people are are descendants of Cain and Ham. She calls black people as stupid, and barbaric race. This is unfortunately a believe that people used to unjustly enslave blacks. If we talk about people being barbaric, then who was more barbaric than the ancestors of modern day Caucasians. Why would God make Cain and Ham black for sinning but not make Adam and Eve who committed the first sin black? The answer is obvious but the racist ideology has to find a way to make whites superior and blacks inferior.I doubt how this lady is recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church. I’m a Catholic by the way.

Read with grain of salt...
The book started off well. I was very enlightened by what I read in that first passage. However, It became a bit more complicated and hard to swallow as I kept reading. I tried my best to keep an open mind, but to me, this seemed more like a rehash of the whole Jewish experience. Where are all the other nations in all of this ?The Atheist and other religions on this planet might have a field day with this book. Being a Christian I tried my best to give the author the benefit of the doubt. Some statements in this book are so controversial and obviously tainted by the author's own upbringing, that the Catholic Church had to throw them out before they decided to beatify her.Nevertheless, this book is like having an eye-witness to some of the events that occurred in the Bible. It takes your understanding to another level. I was hoping that only her main visions were included here, but this is more like the entire "Bible according to Anne Catherine Emmerich" . Way too long and repetitive, although some passages are very good.Another reason why i gave this book a 3-star is that the illustrations are minimal. You probably will not even see them if you just leaf through the pages. I found this to be very misleading.** Upgrade to a 4-star after sitting down and really reading it. There is no way anybody could have known all of the details in this book without some type of spiritual intervention. Unless she has a stupendous imagination...

Buy it now. Don't wait. You will want this in your library forever.
I read this cover to cover and it is spectacular. So many little questions answered. I cried, I laughed, I was amazed, I was delighted. Finally, by the end of the book, I felt gratitude. Jesus was no longer this person I read about, but my God, my brother, and my savior. And when Mel Gibson made his movie based on the Passion part of this book, I recognized the little tidbits of background from the book. Buy it now. Don't wait. You will want this in your library forever.

Absolutely amazing and beautiful!
Wow! So interesting to read! One of the things I have always hoped for when I get to heaven is that God has a "photo gallery" or "film" so we can see how all of history really looked. What did the Garden of Eden look like? And Noah's Ark? And the Tower of Babel? Anne's gift of spiritual visions allowed her to automatically "see" these things as she heard the stories. As a little girl, she assumed everyone else could see these things as clearly as she did, but then she learned that is not the case. Her visions add so much depth and shed light on many points of sacred scripture. A lot of wonderful things to meditate on, and a lot of new perspective to help teachings "sink in."

Helps you to understand the human side of Jesus , Mary and other biblical people. I truly believe the visions of A.C.E. and how the ancients of long ago adapted to their environment. The actual birth place of Jesus makes complete sense. What I really liked was learning that Jesus created a game to play at the wedding at Cana. How cool is that!! There are too many incidents to describe all of the happenings when Jesus and Mary were here on this earth. It's a must read if you really want to know about the real Jesus, his mom and all who came in contact with Him. I've read particular chapters over and over again. This is a magnet of a book because I'm not that much of a reader. It takes a really good book to keep my attention!

Wonderful Read
I chose this rating. When I first started to read it, I like many was skeptical. But the more I read my faith became stronger. I used this writing to help me fill in many blank spaces I had wondered and pondered. Through many months of prayer, I finally felt that the Spirit had given blessing. You have to be very careful about visions. It is up to you to seek discernment. There was one place where she was describing a vision where she specifically mentioned something that she saw and believed the year to be 2000. It spoke of the turbulance within the church but this had a start 40 or 50 years prior. I will leave it at that, but I am sure there are many believers that could come to the conclusion. How else would she know? These visions came to her throught her life and I believe she passed nearly 200 years ago.

Wonderful content but size too big and clumsy for reading.
Loved the book but returned it because it was just to large and clumsy to read :-( It was text book in size, thick and approximately 8" X 10" which is tough to curl up with in bed or in my favorite chair. I've read AC's revelations on the Blessed Virgin Mary and also the Dolorous Passion of Our Lord which I found extremely insightful, and especially helpful when meditating on these mysteries.

The complete visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich
I read all four volumes of The Life of Jesus Christ and was stricken with awe. This book does the same for his Mother, Mary. Very detailed regarding people cities, sin, dress, hair and food! And more....really fleshes out the bible. This book far exceeded my expectations.

Comprehensive but weighty.
This is a hefty volume - only for those who want the full version of the visions rather than an abridged version, and made easier if you have a very comprehensive knowledge of the bible. It’s not easy reading and requires a lot of concentration. Still getting through the Old Testament.

In this book of private revelations of Jesus to Blessed Anne, He reveals minute detail mysteries not revealed in the Bible, such as the pain caused by the strong wind on His wounded Body as He hung on the Cross. He does this to help us meditate more deeply on His Passion. Fascinating!
