Do not buy until fixed.
This product is helpful in regards to studying, but somebody needs to get an editor to go over this ASAP. The practice exam in the back of the book contains the wrong corresponding multiple choice options for several questions. So you’ll read a vignette about a family struggling with a case manager, only to read multiple choice answers that have to do with a daughter who is struggling with depression. What? The answers in the back have totally different options (the correct ones) but it makes the practice exam useless.

I WISH I KNEW ABOUT THIS BEFORE I TOOK THE EXAM THE FIRST TIME
I love how this study guide is structured! Its great to carry around! It’s like my buddy! It’s not overwhelming with information and it’s easy on the eyes both on the front cover and with the material inside. This study guide encourages you and makes you do your own type of scavenger hunt on the theories and creating your formulation which has been great in solidifying my knowledge on FT Theories. Additionally, it lines up exactly with how the AMFTRB ranks/ scores the exam with the different domains. I definitely recommend. I bought my best friend a copy of it as well. Hopefully I’ll remember to update this after I take the exam this next time.UPDATE: I PASSED THE EXAM AND WELL OVER THE MINIMUM NEEDED! I officially have my L! In order to see the results you must put the work in. I used multiple other books to help gain more understanding of the material (Gehart and Goldrick books). I definitely continue to highly recommend. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

The first book an MFT student should buy
This book summarized most everything I learned in my program. It provides a summary of the concepts and models that would have helped immensely during my coursework. This should be a required text for the first class for anyone in an MFT program. This is almost the only reference I needed prior to testing. ...I passed.

Typos!
The content seems good but the typos are a distraction. He uses the phrase ”trite and true scientific method” instead of ”tried and true.” I emailed him about one error and he responded, but overall this needs editing and the lack of attention to the small details make me a little nervous about the book overall. I'll update if I pass!

Great study aid!
I’ve had the original book but this one was great to prepare for the most receipt AMFTRB exams that includes an overview of the domains and provides great rationales in the comprehensive exam and the exam at the back of the book!

This is a must-have for the MFT National Exam!
I passed the MFT National Exam on my first attempt after using only Dr. Violini's study resources! I was initially overwhelmed by all the study materials, websites, and videos out there, but I could not be happier with my purchase. This book is meant to operate as the title implies, as an "Independent Study Guide," meaning there is a lot of information provided and some areas where one can fill in the blanks as needed. I studied quite minimally leading up to the exam and can confidently say I wouldn't have had a chance without Dr. Violini's materials, as they review each domain presented on the exam - nothing more, nothing less. Whether you have months to study or have procrastinated to the very end (guilty!), you will undoubtedly find the Independent Study Guide helpful. In addition to the Independent Study Guide, I would recommend ordering the Audio Review Disc Set and Comprehensive Practice Exam, available separately on Amazon or directly from the author's website as a package.
