It's okay. REVISED
Amazon doesn't allow 1/2 stars, otherwise this would have a 3 1/2 start rating. On the plus side, the plot is good and was helped along with reasonably brisk pacing. The characterization was adequate and I came to care for both main characters, Emma and Roderick. On the down side, the big climax bordered on unbelievable with a kidnapping that was resolved way too easily without adequate explanation. I also object to a story that only occupies 70% of the advertised pages. The last 30% was given over to previews of upcoming novels in the series. I haven't read them, so I assume we find out what happens to Emma's two sisters in the subsequent books since no resolution was spelled out for them in this novel.I went ahead and read the substantial preview for the next book in the series and have to say that, if anything, this second book may be more improbable than the first. Much of the action revealed in the preview is a rehash of a culminating event in the first novel told from a different POV. The author provides 13 chapters of the next book but stops short of the H/h first sexual encounter. Unfortunately, the preview doesn't pique my interest enough to continue the series.Bottom line: this is just a very average Regency era romance. It's not great, it's not terrible, but I chafe at giving over so much space to previews and author's notes.

Love! Great Twist on classic plot, & I want the hero for Xmas!
4 stars. Sensual romanceFirst, this is not quite the same old 'Gambling Den Owner vs. Virtuous Lady'. Though I still enjoy the old standard plot if well written. And this book is very well-written, the characters engaging and just interestingly flawed enough to be believable. The hero is downright perfect, an illegitimate rogue with a heart of gold without the usual overdone angst about his place in society. (If there's any chance this character was modeled after a real man, I would truly like the author to introduce me - Lol! )In essence Emma is a spinster, trying to provide a Season for her two younger sisters with the help of a delightfully eccentric aunt. (Really would love to read this Aunt's story someday). Their father left them with gambling debts and Emma is working against the clock to try and solve their dilemma. The hero, Roderick, owns a gambling club but is not one of the people who holds their debts. He is an illegitimate son of an Earl and an unwed and disowned Lady. Although he harbors some ill will towards his dead father and the haute ton, he doesn't antagonize, plot revenge, etc. Instead he is well-adjusted man who creates a family within his notorious club and is just as able to play the gentleman at the few ton affairs that invite him.I don't want to specify more of the plot because it would ruin the twist this author added. Suffice to say that Emma isn't blackmailed, pressured, or gambled into establishing a relationship with Roderick. However there is a slightly steamy scene where the two play friendly game of cards and the wagers aren't money. And no, they don't end up in bed as a result... I think I'll just stop the summary there and say it really is an enjoyable read.My only complaints - Towards the end of the book the author's lead ins to the sister's stories becomes just too overdone. Instead of being left with a nice HEA Epilogue the reader is literally left with abbreviated cliffhangers about the upcoming books. It was a shame that such a delicious read left me with a slightly bad taste in the mouth.I will definitely be preordering the next book in the series.! I just hope any future series lead ins are more on the subtly tantalizing side than hit-with-a-brick style.

A new author for me and a great read!
I had read a novella from this author in Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret. I liked it so much I decided to try one of her full length novels. I am so glad I did! I loved this book! It is my favorite trope, a successful businessman from the wrong side finds love with a lady from the aristocracy. This was about Emma, the eldest sister of three, living with the gambling debts of her deceased father. She is desperately trying to get her sisters married well and trying to earn money to pay off her father’s debt. Roderick it a successful owner of a gambling establishment. He is the bastard son of an aristocrat.Emma and Roderick’s love story was a long battle. They had a lot of obstacles. The story was passionate and romantic. There was a lot of steam, that contributed rather than distracted from the story. The HEA was all the more sweeter with the struggle between the couple. The plot kept my interest with a lot of content. It moved a a good pace. I like the bad guy, he was a strong character rather than just a one dimensional figure. The sisters were interesting and I can’t wait until their stories!I am so happy I found this author! The book was excellent and I can’t wait to read the next! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves steamy historical romance.

I had downloaded this book on my kindle months ago and then had put off reading it because I'd never read this author before. What was I thinking? I can't believe I've been missing out on this series! Not only is Luck Is No Lady a captivating story, it is extremely well written too. Amy Sandas' storytelling is flawless! The dialogue is delightful, the historical setting is beautifully portrayed, and the characters are people you could imagine knowing. I was hooked from the beginning with Roderick and Emma. They both were such strong characters yet they complimented each other perfectly. They're unusual courtship was a treat to read. I fell in love with the entire Chadwick family and am anxious to see what's in store for the other sisters. If you are a fan of historical romance, you'll be caught up in this series immediately. A sensual, witty, delicious read from beginning to end.

Cheat
I liked the book well enough. It was cliche and full of predictable quotes, but the characterisation was good and it was well written.However. The epilogue came in at 70%. The remaining 30% was dedicated to over ten chapters of the next book. I'm sorry, but that is an absolute cheat. This book wasn't cheap (by ebook standards) and to find out that I had paid for 30% of another book I didn't want pissed me off ever so slightly. So just be aware of what you're paying into.

Loved it!
Absolutely loved this book. The characters, the writing and the drama kept me enthralled right up until the end of this book. I was rooting for the main character. I completely shipped them! It was stunning, sexy and full of suspense. Absolutely, dreamily perfect.

This is the first book I have read by this amazing author. This tale is about Emma, the oldest of the three sisters and was a thrilling read. Well worth a try. Cant wait to read Book 2. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not bad at all
It would have been 5 stars but I would have liked to know what happened to Mr Hales. Maybe that's in the other books?!

OK
The language and writing style are good overall, but here and there I felt this could have been shortened. The oldest at 25, Emma is guardian to her two younger sisters, 20 & 18. After her father's death she's discovered their financial straits, and secretly takes a job as bookkeeper at Roderick's club.We don't really learn much about Roderick's life besides he was born out of wedlock, his mother disowned. How did he and his mother get by? Why the animosity towards his half-brother.This did not interest me enough to read more of this series.
