Good Dummy Load for Radio Testing
With the DIN connector, this item is apparently made for broadcast/telecom techs, but I ordered this for HAM radio. There is a model with a PL-259 connector (and another with N connector) that I’d recommended for HAM instead, as I had to buy some adapters for this one (but Vine offered this one only to me). And to that, I could not find a DIN to UHF adapter (PL-259 or SO-239), so I had to buy a DIN to N, and N to SO-239 adapters. (I wanted female instead of PL-259 male to use/test at the end of patch/antenna cables, inline SWR meter, strain relief from direct connect to radio connector, etc.). So for the cost of the adapters, I should/could have just ordered the PL-259 version…though this model has a wider frequency range than the comparable PL-259 version.-Perfect SWR of 1:1 in my testing at 27MHz.-51 Ohm resistance through my multi-meter.-50W is fine as most of my testing is performed with power turned down to levels far less than that; though 100W would be better in general in case I/you forget to turn the power down on (most) HAM radios…and of course, even larger would be even better for use with amps, etc., and so on. Bottom line for this is that that depends on your rig. But for basic radio and feedline testing (and even testing the SWR meters), this is adequate for me. It’s good to have a known load and not transmit during testing. If I ever do accidentally blow the resistor(s), it might be a tough trick to disassemble this for repair. I haven’t tried, but wonder if the load unscrews from the heatsink.

DIN Connector! No more adapters!
This load is perfectly suited for testing our Nautel FM Transmitters, since we will no longer need those unreliable adapters. I especially like the plastic "keeper" that screws into the DIN connector to keep it clean.
