A New Anthology of Art Songs by African American Composers

This is a great collection of songs. I wish the description has indicated that the songs are best suited to soprano voices, because the tessitura of nearly all the songs is too high for my mostly mezzo vocal studio. If it’s published in a medium-low range in the future I would be happy to but that anthology as well!

I love my new book. It has music I didn’t know and composers I didn’t know. I’m so excited to start my new schoolYear with my students and teach some of these songs.

This book is wonderful it has given me wonderful ideas for recital. This is great for voice students and teachers alike looking for new and interesting rep to study. Most of these composers are still alive so you are able to actually connect with some of them.

Wonderful songs beautifully written.
