What Matters Most Is How Well You Walk Through the Fire: A Posthumous Bukowski Collection – Raw and Authentic Literary Poetry

Bukowski has many collections of work, scratching the surface is an intimidating task, not unlike confronting the prolific oeuvre of Joyce Carol Oates. I've read a few, from the early to very late and posthumous volumes. He's excellent when he connects and sticks landings, but as with Prince records there is often required a bit of wading to locate such pieces. This is one of the most consistent and solid books of the poet's I've encountered, encompassing the full gamut and range of his different styles and approaches. Highly worth investigating, if you're looking for a clean, polished showcase of strong writing this is the finest I've yet had the fortune of exploring.

I liked some parts, loved others, and even the poems I found dull still provoked me and made me see something I hadn't before (well, most of them, there's still a lot about horses and going to the track, and i cannot for the life of me give a damn about it). It takes a lot of guts to present oneself in a light so unsavory, and to be so honest about the tragedy, but also the joy of the life you lead. It's a very human, and more humble, Bukowski we meet, I think. Or perhaps the collection is simply put together that way. Here's a man who's accepted who he is, and has found a way to evade insanity. He writes it all down instead. This book also contains a few poems directed at his fans and it's pretty hilarious and illuminating to read what he has to say to the people who adored(/adores) his writing and saw him as a hero. And these are not, perhaps, poems he would have published himself, so I guess that's another thing in favor of this book. I can recommend it, not exactly as a starting point, but if you're a fan, you won't want to miss it.

A friend of mine borrowed this from me and absolutely refused to give my Buk back until she could xerox most of the poems. It's great. Some of the best poetry I've read (Just received an English degree from my university) and it's very, very interested. Definitely the best aspect of Buk as a writer.

O livro é lindo, com cores muito bonitas e uma textura na capa que é muito agradável de tocar. A versão do livro é sem orelhas, o que não é fora do esperado por ser uma versão importada e a maioria acaba vindo sem elas, por mais que exija mais cuidado com o livro, vale a pena a compra.

Awesome collection of CB’s Best. A must have!

Charles Bukowski has always been one of my favorite authors for his sarcasm, his view about life, his words and his capacity to make me love and hate him at the same time. He's one of those authors that can make you feel what he's feeling, that can touch you even though you can't relate to him at all. Although, I personally think it always depends on the individual who's reading his work. The product was receieved well packed and in good quality. Extremely satisfied.
