Getting to Malleability
Carotenuto, in Kant’s Dove, as in his other writings, is profoundly straightforward.Building on the framework of transference’s rich history, Carotenuto explains both the phenomenon and its necessity in therapy. The author, using rich examples including such notables as Freud and Jung, describes potential therapist vulnerabilities of relationship necessary during intense therapy and also useful precautions for avoiding compromising either the client’s or the therapist wellbeing.Carotenuto also proposes that an interesting parallel to transference in therapy, is transference’s essential role in other relationships … like romances.Kant’s Dove is a powerful writing and well worth the read. Five Stars!

A Brilliant analysis
Carotenuto is a marvelous writer. He makes the often dry clinical work into a page turner. I couldn't put it down. He is a fine clinician, historian and has a sense of humor! Having studied with Bowen I can say that the idea of getting out of transference/countertransference in the hour is just like the Dove flying in a vacuum! I highly recommend this brilliant analysis.
