Lasko Lasko-18 Adjustable Elegance & Performance Pedestal, 3-Speed, White (1820) Household Fans, 18"

If you must get a pedestal and oscillating fan go for this one. We've always had good experiences with Lasko fans so I chose this one but this has not been as efficient as some box fans we have from Lasko. I got this fan as we did not want to have to put the fan on a table or attach it to a window and wanted air to blow at sitting level not closer to ground. However, the base is so large (18 inches across?) that it won't fit nicely between the furniture and window in our living room so it blocks the view from a window. This is probably because the base is really light and needs to support the weight of an oscillating fan. However, a light base makes this fan easy to move around if needed.The oscillation is fine, but it turns a full 180 degrees while we may want it to turn only 90 degrees if there are just 2-3 people in the room. I wish there was a setting that would limit oscillation to a smaller zone. We ended up not using the oscillation feature too much due to that. This fan also does not give the kind of air stream we got from the 20 inch premium Lasko box fan - however it matches the air flow of a newer Lasko box fan we bought recently. A pity that Lasko seems to be making its fan blades lighter and lighter and they're not pushing out as much air as they used to. It is also fairly loud at higher speeds. So if you're running it when trying to watch a movie with quieter dialog it becomes a distraction. There are some quieter fans available that give about as much air.This fan wasn't too much trouble to put together but snapping the grill together was a pain. It took a lot of time to align in and I don't want to spend the same time doing this over when I clean the fan. The clips also look like they may become loose or break easily so I would be careful about taking it apart too many times.I preferred the white color as it blends into the room and white trimmings and does not look like an eyesore.Overall, just an ok fan. There are better alternatives in this price range but now that I purchased it, I am just going to live with it as it isn't too bad either.

I have a pretty inefficient air conditioner in my apartment, and after a vacation in Aruba where my nights were saved by a rotating fan, I realized I needed to purchase one of my own. With Prime shipping my fan was at home before I was. It was very easy to set up, I had no problem with the grates snapping together, it doesn't wobble, and I was able to adjust it to the height of my bed. I've always kept the fan on setting 1. I like the white noise it offers, but I think I'd find the higher settings a bit too loud.On the hottest days I use both the a/c and the fan to redirect the cool air back at me. But now that's it's fall I still like to sleep with just the fan because of the white noise. And it keeps me from being too hot without having to run the a/c all the time.Two year update: I've used my fan every night without any issues, except that like any fan, it's hard to clean. I try to dust it often, but today I took the fan apart and soaked the plastic pieces is the tub with some oxygen bleach powder. I'm very glad everything was plastic and very easy to take apart because now I have a perfectly clean fan again!Five year update: I’ve used my fan every single night for years now with almost no issues. One night the blade came loose and we were woken up by the terrifying racket. Now I tighten everything up every few months and haven’t had any issues. Twice a year I soak everything in the tub to remove collected dust and it’s good as new. The pedestal collected some grime over the years but was spotless after 5 seconds with a magic eraser. I’m so glad I got a good old-fashioned fan because it’s a lot easier to clean and than a tower fan. I know I mentioned the white noise before, but it’s probably the best part about sleeping with this fan. We live in a noisy apartment building, but even when our neighbor is blaring music we can’t hear it from the bedroom.

We bought a couple of these fans for the kitchen and bedroom which get very hot in the summer. The airflow this baby puts out is high, but this is also a fairly loud fan too. We've only ever used it on the lowest setting, and I'd say the noise level is borderline obtrusive to the people at the kitchen table trying to have conversation. I personally have no trouble sleeping to the significant amount of white noise you'd experience using it in a bedroom, but other may find it annoying.I can't even imagine using the fan on medium or high unless you were trying to ventilate a room that nobody was inside or something. The low setting is more than enough for me. I actually wish the lowest setting were the highest instead and that came with a couple quieter settings.One thing to keep in mind is that the fan isn't nearly as tall as you might think. At full extension, the fan reaches just to the top of the kitchen table to cool the faces of those sitting at it. In the bedroom, it reaches just high enough to be above the mattress level of the bed rather than shooting air at the side of the bed. It's high enough for anything we've used it for; just don't go thinking you can extend it way up to head height.Unlike a few other reviewers, I had no significant trouble assembling either of these 2 fans that I own. The hardest part is at the end with the plastic tabs snapping into the grill. Just be patient and work on all sides of the fan at once, making sure they're snapped in everywhere.Update: 2 years of use and both fans are still working great. The noise is still an issue in rooms where people are trying to talk to one another - not sure I'd buy this fan again.
