So, there's a debate over what constitutes a true Katana. Traditionally made Katanas are put through a special process because there was no way in feudal Japan for blacksmiths to remove impurities from swords. Nowadays, because we're able to manufacture steel to have the least amount of impurities and a specific degree of stiffness, it could be argued that a Katana manufactured in a more modern way is probably of a higher caliber than a Kanata made the traditional way. However, I am not one to argue with purists in regards to whether or not one Katana is better than another or not.Instead, I'll just take my Ryu Dragon Katana and walk away satisfied.
