Gone from My Sight: The Dying Experience

Helpful guide to stages of dying
When my mother in-law was on Hospice in our home, I was very nervous and had many questions as to what to expect. One of the nurses gave me a copy of this little book. It explained what was happening, what to expect and it was uncomplicated, easy to understand. My fears subsided and I felt more at ease. The book is very informative, short but to the point. I made notes on my copy so bought this copy when I saw Amazon had it. I definately recommend this book.

If you’re expecting to lose someone, this is for you.
My dad was in hospice over 11 years ago, I was 17 and had never gone through that process before. When I asked the nurses when he was as going to be coming back home, they looked at each other then back at me and asked me to sit in a room off to the side. They sat me down and told me gently that this was his last stop, and handed me this book after talking to me. I was lost, heartbroken and scared. This book really broke down what to expect before death finally sets in on a loved one. The poem that inspired the title for this title ‘Gone from my Sight’ is one of my favorite poems today. I purchased this book for my boyfriend who is expecting to lose a grandparent in the near future. It’s a very easy read and was extremely helpful to me. I gave my copy from when my dad passed to a friend at work who was experiencing the loss of her mother. So don’t forget to pass it on when you don’t need it anymore, as hard as it might be!

Being prepared for the passing of a loved one
A home hospice nurse shared with me a copy of this booklet in the 1990s. I never forgot how useful and helpful it was in preparing me for my mother-in-law's passing. I now have an aunt that has advanced kidney failure and CHF. I want to share some of the information with her daughter. She said she may order the booklet herself to prepare herself for her mother's end of life stage. It is a comprehensive, concise well prepared booklet with tenderness and respect. My compliments to the author.Joan Sweeney

Must read for dealing with your person in hospice care.
The book is short and to the point, without being blunt or morbid. This book can help guide you in knowing what your person needs and when, and what to expect through the different stages of dying. Very helpful!

This pamphlet is so very helpful
I like how things were broken down by month, week, day and hour. It's never easy to go thru the death of a loved one but this pamphlet helps you know what to expect

Okay, but not comprehensive.
This is more of an extended pamphlet than a book - so a booklet? It provides a good, quick overview of the dying process, but does not offer very comprehensive details about the physiological changes. But I am very science minded and wanted more details. For the average reader, this offers a quick and somewhat comforting description of the dying process. It is enough to assure most people that the changes they see happening are normal, and more uncomfortable to them than they are to their dying loved ones.

This is NOT a book, is more like a booklet, just 16 pages.
Just 16 pages of information already available on the internet. Is not worth it.
