The ABC Herbal: A Simplified Guide to Natural Health Care for Children

"Common Sense" but without support
I purchased this book and subsequently returned it. Having said that, I believe I read enough of it to know that it is not the kind of book that is going to help me make decisions about my children's healthcare mainly because it is guilty of committing the same error as the mainstream medical community, namely being very heavy handed with perscriptive advice, and very light on educating the parent. As much as I want answers about how to raise my kids, I don't want them at the expense of being asked not to think. For example, the book mentions quite a few recipes for different ailments, with almost no background information on the herbs used, more than an occasional anecdote about the author's own children's experience with the remedy. One remedy that I found paricularly concerning, given the author's very frequent reccomendation of it for everything from fever to earaches was the administration of routine enemas. If this is a miracle cure I'm unaware of, I was certainly left unconvinced by the lack of support given in this book.As a believer in Christ, I was also put off by the mention of speaking declarations over your children as you administer the remedy. I am open to faith in healing, but not to an extra-Biblical supposedly Christianized version of positive thinking. Overall, I was very disappointed in the book.

Wonderful Buy! The ABC Herbal
I would highly recommend this book to any parent who wants to take charge of their children's health. I have two young children and this book has been invaluable in helping me treat them through their various colds (as well as their daddy). They've never had an infection yet, and I'm hoping to keep it that way. If you want an alternative to antibiotics and needless intervention, educate yourself on natural, gentle methods to help heal and soothe. The book is small, but it's jam-packed with information, and gave me the knowledge to make my own herbal tinctures and poultices. It's a great starting place for someone who's new to herbs.

Excellent Resouce
This is the best book for learning about herbs!! It is easy to read and apply. I only wish the title didn't say for children or I would have bought it first. The best intoduction herb book I've read. His explanations and application are crystal clear. Most herb books are big on theory but, small on how to's. Not this book. It has an amazing amount of information for such a small book. I recommend it to anyone interested in learning and wanting to use herbs.

Not bad but not great either
This is a good beginner book but the problem I have is the lack of specifics. He provides plenty of Herbal combinations for some general recipes, but do not expect ratios. I'd have given a higher rating if he at least explained how to make a TincTrac, instead of just dangling it out there as a "better way" for Children. I would not go so far to call this a bait and switch, but at the end of the book he provides a URL to an equally vague web site that drives the customer to some pricey classes. It may be my loss, but based on the book, I would be sceptical about the classes.

Very helpful!
Well written, easy to read, organized and informative. They're not kidding when they say "simplified." While easy to read, it's packed with good information about alternative health care options (remedies, foods, etc.) for kids. The ideas are also easily transferrable to adults, as well. It's understandable enough (not overloaded) for parents just starting to explore alternative medicine options for their kids, but informative enough for those who are experienced, too.

good info
This book came recommended to me from another book and I'm really glad I bought it. Has the recipes in the back for various tinctures and mixtures for a number of ailments or just well being. I ended up buying a premade tincture from a company recommended in the book and love it. A real easy read--short and sweet--to the point and I liked reading it.
