The Tarzan Collection Starring Jock Mahoney & Mike Henry (5 Discs)

Tarzan the globe trotter
This is a fine collection of "Tarzan" films, a must have for the devoted Tarzan fan. All 5 films are in color & all 5 films portray Tarzan as a articulate intelligent man, as Edgar Rice Burrough's wrote him. Ironicaly only 1 out of the 5 films are set in africa. Jock Mahoney starred in a Tarzan film set in Africa but he played Tarzan's advisary opposite Gordon Scott in Gordon's final Tarzan role. Jock Mahoney starts this collection off playing Tarzan in the jungles of India. Mahoney's second & last Tarzan role is set in the jungles of Thailand. After suffering through bouts of Dysentery,Dengue Fever & Pneumonia I think Jock was ready to pass the title role to Mike Henry. Our first glimpse of Mike Henry as the new Tarzan shows him looking very much like James Bond in a dapper suit, the next scene has him dressed in fashionable street cloths of the day, it is only when Mike Henry's "Tarzan is ready to start his adventure do we see him in the classic Tarzan garb reveling a very athletic physique & looking very much like we would expect Tarzan to look. Mike Henry's first role as Tarzan is in the jungles of Central America with Mayan temples as the back drop in "Tarzan & the Valley of Gold".Mike's second film and the fourth film of this collection has Tarzan In the jungles of the Amazon. Finally Tarzan returns to the jungles of africa in Mike Henry's final role as Tarzan & the final film in this collection. The final film has Tarzan looking for a jungle boy who's father dies when he is a toddler leaving him to grow up wild in the heart of Africa, sound familar? Just like Jock Mahoney, Mike Henry suffered more starring in Tarzan movie's than he did in his pro football career contracting food poisening,Infections, Injury's and even having his face mauled by a chimp!!!Gordon Scott's work as Tarzan is wonderfull to watch as he starts speaking broken english but by his final film is portraying Tarzan as being smart and well spoken, something Johnny Weissmuller was not allowed to do. This collection keeps Gordon Scott's efforts alive bringing a entelligent Tarzan to the big screen, thanks Jock & Mike! If i'm not mistaken it would take hollywood 12 years to bring Tarzan back to the big screen after Mike Henry's last film. 1981 would see Tarzan back on the big screen as a origins tale. 1983 would see Tarzan back on the big screen again as a origins tale this one being the closest to Edger Rice Burrough's Tarzan ever to hit the big screen. But this collection represents the last of Tarzan as a franchised movie machine pumping out movies every year or so like James Bond or Batman.

Flying and jumping out of planes seemed different from swinging on vines.
I bought several different Tarzan movies and this was good but Jock Mahoney wasn't the best Tarzan. It was exciting but kinda weird to see Tarzan jumping out of a plane to get to the location he needed to be. Jock seemed breathless at times when he did very active shots.

Good time, good price.
Nice service nice price. Have not seen these films in a million years. Filled a nice nostalgia gap.

Worst Tarzan actor ever.
Jock Mahoney is the worst Tarzan in the characters history. The stories of his two films are solid adventure movies, but Tarzan feels bolted on. The same goes for the Mike Henry movies, the second worst actor in the characters history.

More adventures of a well-spoken Tarzan with Mahoney and Mike Henry
As a fan of most of the Tarzan movies (Gordon Scott being my favorite), these Jock Mahoney and Mike Henry features are a perfect way to fill out my DVD collection of the Ape man's films and the picture quality is the best so far (until we get remastered and bluray versions). Recommended for all Tarzan fans. Was a bit surprised that while my Gordon Scott DVD's came individually packaged - one movie in each case, these come in one unit with all five films instead.

Great movies with great Tarzans
This was a great re-discovery for me. I hadn't seen these films since I was a kid. Seeing them again brought back a lot of memories. Jock Mahoney was a decent Tarzan, but Mike Henry, wow, what great man! He was the best Tarzan by far in my book! Thanks again!
