Modesty Blaise: I, Lucifer (Modesty Blaise series)

Lucifer lets some sun in
Fast-paced, atmospheric and with an original plot. It's very post-Bond '60's spy stuff, so don't expect John Le Carre or Graham Greene. That being said, Peter O'Donnell is a cut above most in the genre when it comes to literary ability. An enjoyable read, not least because it was written at a time when thrillers were allowed to be fun, rather than the grim, neo-horror on offer today.

I love this mans books and got tis to replace a battered copy that I have read so many times. I then found myself eager to get the packaging off so I could read it again.

One Of The Greatest Fantasy Thrillers Ever Written.
One of the best in a fabulous series.O’Donnell’s capacity to underpin a high octane thrill ride with a depth of characterisation has never been better demonstrated.Blaise and Garvin have a unique relationship that serves to add a dimension to these books which heightened the jeopardy enormously. You cared about the outcome in a way you never cared about a certain 007.‘I Lucifer’ is a great read and acts as a solid testimony to O’Donnell’s skill as a writer. The absolute best from an era when people were allowed to have fun.
