This “roller-coaster, edge-of-your-seat thriller” ( Star-Tribune , Minneapolis) in the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series follows the CIA’s top operative as he must stop a massacre in Washington, DC, and save the president before terrorists reach the White House. The stately calm of a Washington morning is shattered when a group of terrorists descends, killing dozens and taking nearly one hundred hostages as they try to infiltrate the White House. The Secret Service immediately evacuates the president to an underground bunker—and while officials argue over how best to negotiate with the enemy, Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative, moves stealthily among the hidden corridors and secret passageways of the nation’s capital to save the hostages before the terrorists reach the president. But there’s someone waiting in the wings, someone within the Washington elite, who is determined to see Rapp’s rescue mission fail. With heart-pounding thrills and feverish pacing, Transfer of Power “mixes in a spicy broth of brutal terrorists, heroic commandos, and enough secret-agent hijinks to keep the confrontation bubbling until its flag-raising end” ( Publishers Weekly ). Review: Incredible book - This book is impossible to put down. Excellent writing. It keeps you on the edge of your seat jumping back and forth between different scenes. Review: First book in the series! - After exhausting the Jack Reacher series I was dying for something along those lines. Reviewed the Clancey books and similar. Decided on Vince Flynn's series. As I got to the end of this book I was unsure what book was next in the series. I thought I only read Book 1...but turns out they were so good I was already finishing Book 3!!! (I am now on Book 4 and am totally into it!) Transfer of Power turns out to be the first "written" book by Flynn. (I read "American Assassin" and "Kill Shot" before I realized these two predate "Transfer of Power".) Flynn decided to write all of these stories before taking the time to give the readers the background on Mitch Rapp. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy these novels. Vince Flynn was/is a brilliant author and he knows how to keep the reader involved. (Yes, I just learned that Mr. Flynn sadly passed away a few years ago!) ((And why do all of the great ones leave us too soon? Larsson, Ludlum, Flynn...??)) Anyway, in "Transfer of Power" Mitch is sent on a "mission" with a team to erase a German tycoon who is supplying technology to Saddam Hussein. The mission is completed until the "team" takes extra steps. And I won't spoil anything more! What I will say is that, once this deed is done, the story takes a wild ride into all of the players involved. As Mitch goes dark, the rest of the story starts to unfold. I think this is a great twist into Flynn's writing as the main character is vaguely heard from. At the same time, all of the others involved start to come alive and, as the reader, I am desperately trying to put the pieces in place as well as determine what will happen next! I really have enjoyed this series and I am sure I will be reading all of them. Again, as mentioned above, Flynn left the world in 2013 and unfortunately we will never know what happens after his last book. (I have also learned that a friend of his will take over the writing but, like Ludlum, it just won't be the same.)

More a Washington Political Thriller Than a Conventional Mitch Rapp Action Novel
I received Transfer of Power from Amazon in good condition, and it arrived on time. This is the second Mitch Rapp novel I’ve read after American Assassin. The story follows Middle Eastern terrorists, backed by Iraq, who seize the White House. Written during Saddam Hussein’s era, the geopolitical context shapes the plot, with the attackers aiming to damage not just lives but America’s political image and morale. Readers expecting nonstop action may find this entry different. While Rapp plays a key role, much of the novel focuses on how Washington responds to crisis. Officials clash over negotiation versus force, with political ambition, public perception, and bureaucracy complicating decisions. The book works best as a political thriller, highlighting how hesitation and infighting can worsen a crisis. The main weakness is the terrorists’ method of entry via an underground tunnel linked to the Treasury. Given the White House’s security, this feels implausible, as such access would likely be heavily monitored and protected. Despite this flaw, the novel is tense and engaging. It may not satisfy those seeking pure action, but it succeeds as a political drama where indecision can be as dangerous as the threat itself. An enjoyable read for those who appreciate political intrigue alongside counterterrorism.

If you are a fan of the Mitch Rapp action novels this is a good one.
Lately I have become a fan of Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp assassin novels. This is the third one I have read and from the very first page, I loved it. It grabs you and will not let go and makes you turn the pages. This action-packed novel involves the president and the white house staff because of a plot involving a takeover. Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counter terrorism man is assigned to take care of the crisis. This story is filled with numerous twists and turns and enough bad guys to keep Mitch busy doing what he does best. The last part of this book kept me turning the pages because of the tense situation Mitch was in to save the president etc. I never give away too much information when reviewing any novel but if you are a fan of the Mitch Rapp assassin novels you will love this one. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Tactical Principles of the most effective Combative Systems).

Tom Clancy fans look no further
Many years ago I found my favorite author, Tom Clancy. I loved his writing style, subject matter, story telling and characters and I read all of his primary novels. I was very sad at his passing knowing that I would never again get to experience the joy of the release of a brand new novel written by Tom Clancy. I am extremely excited, however, to have found the Mitch Rapp novels by Vince Flynn. "Transfer of Power" is my first Vince Flynn novel and I could not have enjoyed it more. Mr Flynn's writing style, subject matter, story telling and characters are very reminiscent of Tom Clancy's and I believe that if you like one you will find it difficult not to like the other. As much as I enjoyed my first Flynn novel I doubt he could ever quite measure up to Clancy in my mind but that speaks more to timing and nostalgia than anything else. I do suspect, though, that he may become a very close runner up. I just finished the book and the next two (in order of publish dates) are due tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a new series of books to enjoy and new characters to invest in. I am sad to find out that, only having found Vince Flynn in the last week, in 2013 he also passed away but, thankfully, he left us with about a dozen novels. And, of course, I absolutely LOVE the "mass distribution" paperback. You can't beat the convenience of an e-book but, to me, the mass distribution paperback is by far the superior format. The size, the feel, the smell, the simple reliability and the ability to keep your favorites on a shelf to reread and share with others make this format my favorite by far. In addition, the quality of the one I received is far better than I'm used to. The pages are a bright white and the print is exceptionally clear and sharp which makes it outstandingly easy to read, even in low light.

Crème de la crème of Political Action Thrillers!
Vince Flynn's Transfer of Power like American Assassin and Term Limits is the Crème de la crème of political action thriller novels. Like no other author that I have ever experienced Flynn has me glued to my chair thoroughly engrossed in his stories while rapidly flipping exciting pages well into the night. Transfer of Power introduces the quick thinking terrorist's worst nightmare undercover super agent Mitch Rapp, aka Iron Man, the key element in the most secretive organization within the CIA, the Orion Team, in a battle of wits with diabolical terrorist Rafique Azia, the man responsible for the long scare on his face. Funded by Saddam Hussein, a terrorist cell violently infiltrates the White House, killing an abundance of secret service agents, capturing their equipment and a plethora of hostages, wiring the white house with explosives, jamming communications and threatening to bring America to its knees-- forcing her to return all frozen terrorist funds, releasing UN embargo on Iraq while alienating Israel. Fresh from appearance changing plastic surgery, terrorist mastermind Azia poses as a Prince Kalib from Oman, bearing a $500,000 gift to the Democrat National Party in exchange for a face to face visit with President Robert Hayes, the perilous roller coaster action ride begins. After Secret Service Agents quickly save the life of the President, retreating with him to a special vault impregnable to nuclear explosion, but not to a terrorist safe cracker, Presidential powers are transferred to the incompetent Vice President Sherman Baxter after communications with the President are severed by the terrorists. Vince Flynn is a master of suspense, character development, pace and thrilling action adventure story telling. Transfer of Power is an exciting book that will leave readers waiting impatiently for the next in the Mitch Rapp series. Enjoy!

The first Mitch Rapp book written is still the best
Transfer of Power was not the first Mitch Rapp adventure timewise written by the late Vince Flynn but it was the first book that he wrote in the series and IMHO it is still the best. While Transfer of Power was written in 1999, two years before 9/11, it covered the threat of extremist terrorism on US soil in a way that almost made 9/11 seem tame. This is classic Mitch Rapp, covert CIA operator and assassin, disguised as a simple-minded elderly and grubby Arab street-person hunting down a lead on master terrorist Rafique Aziz by kidnapping one of his closest associates, Fara Harut. After the kidnapping Rapp soon discovers that Harut knows about a plot to invade the White House and kill the American President - but by the time Rapp warns his CIA boss Irene Kennedy the plot is in action. Rafique Aziz is already at the White House, posing as a Saudi Prince, when his fellow terrorists gain access to the building, leaving dozens murdered, almost one hundred other held hostage and booby-trap bombs set up around the building. Quick action by the Secret Service moves the president to an underground bunker but the terrorists have plans to break into the bunker. Rapp quickly gets involved in a high level meeting chaired by the Vice-President which plans ways to negotiate with the terrorists for the release of the hostages. Rapp soon tells them in no uncertain terms how stupid their plans are. With the help of the military Rapp finds a way into the White House to try and save the President and the hostages. This is a classic adrenaline-filled politico/terrorist thriller that has stood the test of time. I was bowled over with it when it was first published and I was still excited and impressed when I revisited it 15 years later.

Action from start to end and good Kindle formatting
By reading one of the Kindle discussion about which series to read, I came across the Mitch Rapp books. Unfortunately they have not been published in Norway - AFAIK. As a huge fan of action books with the spy twist this was right up my alley. Having the opportunity to start with book one was a huge bonus thanks to the inherited properties of electronic books. I was not disappointed with the first Mitch Rapp book and I look forward to read the next one. The book started a bit slow, but within the first 200 locations it really took off. If you have read a lot of these kinds of books the ending of the story could only have two outcomes and can be foreseen. This did not hamper the quality of the story, nor the entertainment value - which is really great. The only thing that I wish could be handled differently is that the epilogue was not present - without the epilogue a veritable nemesis to the series could be introduced. An excellent tool Vince Flynn used throughout the book was putting out a lot of hints and red herrings which may or may not be picked up later. I really hope that some of these hints will be taken on later in the series. The persona gallery is excellent portrayed, even more so than other books in this genre. I really hope that some of the involuntarily bad guys (idiots) will be present in later books - just for the entertainment value. On the good side, I expect to read more about these people in later books. Regarding the electronic version of the book, the publisher did nearly succeed 100%. The formatting is excellent, chapter markers are in place. Unfortunately there where no graphical cover present - however, the cover is good enough. The book fails on one important item: There is a reference to a map - but this map is not found in the book. For this, the publisher should be ashamed of them self. When this is said, the book can be read without the map. All in all the book scores pretty high on the various points of The E-book Readers Manifesto.

Good, but not his best
Good read, I really enjoyed it, but for my taste, too much politics and not enough action. No the Mitch Rapp we have learnt to know and love, but all the same, a good read. I hope we get back to the original Rapp in future books.

Loved my first Vince Flynn novel
Only recently did I hear of this author, Vince Flynn, & I'm hooked. Unfortunately he has just recently died so I'll have to make do with those books already published. I found this book to be one of those that you just don't want to put down. The hero, Mitch Rapp, is a top CIA counterterrorism agent, ruthless when necessary, heroic in action, plus a true gentleman. There is political intrigue, national security, military tactics & lots of bad guys (both ours & theirs). This was a book where you don't want to skim over sections, every page was filled with details. Am looking forward to my next Vince Flynn book!
