Canine Massage : The Workbook

I bought this book after my greyhound lost a leg to bone cancer. For a few months after the operation he was uncomfortable and had some pain even with medication. I used this book as a guide to massage and relax him and to help him cope with the pain. It worked and for that I will always be thankful to Patricia Whalen-Shaw.The techniques are simple and effective, and if you think about it you realize they are common sense. She shows where particular types of muscles are located and the best methods and movements to massage and relax them. After I started to use her methods, Skyler the greyhound relaxed and really began to enjoy these sessions. He got the massage sessions twice a day or when he seemed to be uncomfortable. As time went on he recovered from the operation and suffered no lingering pain but he still insisted that the massage sessions continue! He really loved them.He lived for almost three more years until the cancer returned, but his daily massages were a great enjoyment for him. In fact, if I went upstairs to bed at night and forgot the massage, he would bark until I came down and massaged him to sleep.This book helped at least one dog to recover and enjoy life. If you have a dog that has been ill I recommend that you get this book and follow her instructions and your dog will thank you.And thank you Patricia Whalen-Shaw.

I bought the workbook first and then discovered there was a DVD to go with it. I bought the DVD as well. I'm a visual learner but the workbook was very easy to follow and understand. I found it to be very thorough as it covers basic canine anatomy, basic massage techniques, effleurage, passive touch which is good for the hand shy dog, kneading and much more. It also covers evaluating the dog for massage. The book has plenty of pictures and ample room for note taking which I need!! Very good for the beginner as it shows you step by step basics and even covers the more advance techniques. I would also recommend this workbook for anyone in the pet business who is looking to add massage as part of their services. Overall I found this book the best out of all 4 canine massage books I bought. A little on the pricey side and that is the only reason why I am giving it 4 stars. I highly recommend this book.

Book was in good condition cover folded but itll be fine with TLC and an excellent source of experience and education love it!
