Great and easy to play. Use guide I linked for additional help
Great game. As a fan of the Phantasy Star series since Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast, this game is amazingly fun. I don't speak nor understand any Japanese what so ever, but the menus are easy to navigate once familiarized. I've played the Phantasy Star Universe series, and this takes some of the best parts of it. There's next to no english in the game, and the few is enough to tell you the special objectives within the mission (like "kill/capture/avoid" gigantes). Side missions are usually complete mission/collect materials/kill x monsters, but some are more elaborate (complete x mission with y class with z weapon), so a guide is essential if the language barrier is strong. This guide is super helpful for anything one can't assume on ones own. http://www.bumped.org/psublog/phantasy-star-nova-guide/

Shame on Sega for not releasing this amazing game worldwide
Shame on Sega for not releasing this amazing game worldwide, I'm a fan of Phanstasy Star games (mostly action type PSO) and got Vita just to play this game really. Too bad Sega doesn't like money it seems because I'm sure tons of other fans would have bought it if it were localized but don't want to deal with importing or Japanese only text.

Long-time Phantasy Star Fan
Phantasy Star is one of my favorite series of all time but I was pretty let down by Nova. If you've played Phantasy Star Online 2 you'll find a nearly identical game as far as combat mechanics go but with a couple of differences like bosses that can be captured and called upon in battle once you've filled up a gauge (think Phantasy Star Portable 2). These bosses are gigantic and you'll have to employ an item/weapon (you can use it either way) called Halo which creates a ring up in the sky which can be stacked twice in order to reach the enemy if you play as a Hunter. Like in PSO2 you can switch classes in between missions but there is a new class which I believe they call Breaker which allows you to use a big drill looking weapon which can shoot stakes at the enemy (you can equip buster weapons with any class through a skill by the way). The goal is to use these stakes on boss weak-points such as turrets, tail pieces, etc. and then when you attack the area that has a breaker stake through it you inflict bonus damage and also increase the filling of your burst gauge. When the burst gauge fills through attacking enemies and chaining combos you gain an effect for a short amount of time such as increased drop-rate, rare monster chance up, extra experience from defeating enemies, etc. In each battle you can take three other A.I. teammates with you and I would usually rely on them to apply halo and breakers when needed since it became a bit much in the way of micro-managing for me. These teammates are revived from something called the Cold Sleep Counter where you pay a price to unlock 1-~8 characters at a time for a certain price and you'll receive a random character from the pool of characters of the rank you select. It sounds complicated but it works just like any popular F2P smartphone game and sometimes you will receive rare characters denoted by a red capsule with better stats or a super rare super powerful character who's capsule will be rainbow. These characters all have traits and you will place them in the various shops throughout the game in order to apply boosts and even though everything is in Japanese you can still press Start while selecting their work positions to have the game select the best places to put them (*I can't read a word of Japanese, this game is pretty import friendly, there is a good beginners guide on Bumped.org covering a lot of these things and if you played PSO2 you'll be even more at home with this game). For your various shops you can upgrade them by doing certain promise orders (quests) for certain people or advancing the story. You can customize your base and deck it out with all sorts of useless structures, benches, boxes, etc. if you feel like taking a break and playing The Sims. This is all that I can think of that is different from PSO2 off the top of my head, the game does seem more story focused but not speaking the language I can't comment on the quality of said story. As such a huge fan this all sounded great when I was reading up on the game but after about 40 hours of playing I've completely lost interest. The boss battles are incredibly boring (hit them 50 times then they'll slowly wind up for an attack, rinse repeat) and there is very little variety with some re-skinned bosses appearing after the first 15 hours. The balance is horribly broken and Ranger is far and away the most viable class to take on these monsters with and even without using Ranger the game was already a bit too easy as a Hunter (Scape-dolls, items which let you revive, can be carried in to a battle five at a time and they cost next to nothing to replenish, not that you'll really need them). The frame-rate is consistently poor but even worse so during these boss battles. The quest system is set up so most quests are repeatable so after each battle you'll walk around and go through 30 menus pressing ok, and making sure nothing new is stocked for about five to ten minutes between each five minute battle phase. There seems to be very little content compared to PSO2 or even the finalized version of the original PSO Blue Burst with the Japanese patches. The audio was such a huge letdown with music only playing during battle or at the base, PSO has probably my all time favorite soundtrack. There is no way to control your A.I. teammates and getting your Force to heal you can sometimes be nearly impossible. I will say for the most part the teammates are better than most A.I. controlled teammates you'll see in a video game but if we had some element of control over them it would have made life easier. The decision to switch from enemies dropping actual items that you can use to dropping materials was flat out stupid. You find red (rare) drops left and right but due to the amount it happens and the fact that you have no easy way of telling what that drop will be for (without planning ahead a good deal) it loses all the excitement it used to hold for the series. The game really let me down, but it isn't a bad game, in fact it's still a pretty decent game. If you are a fan of the series I'd advise you to look at some YouTube videos before grabbing this and if you aren't a fan of the series I'd probably recommend localized titles like Ragnarok Odyssey Ace or Soul Sacrifice Delta over PS Nova.

Always Wanted This!
Arrived well packed and on time! The game is factory sealed and comes the game and the items in one of my image. The game is in Japanese (raw) so don't expect to have an ENG dub/sub for the game without resorting mods or looking for guides ol. This game is a "single player" version of PSO2's MMORPG. If you want to play the latest PSO2 and NGS, play the pc/console version. Otherwise this game is a fun little addtion to the earlier PSO2!

Just what i wanted! A phantasy star online game developed by Tri-Ace lol. I'm playing on an unmodified Playstation Vita. Works just fine in region 1.

Worth a Buy and Easy to Afford!
It's an amazing game! Can be played on both American PlayStation TV and PS Vita WITHOUT A JAPANESE PSN ACCOUNT. Only downside is it's all in Japanese, but for die hard fans of the series who are tired of waiting for an English release of a Phantasy Star game, this game is good enough :) You can always go on Google and search for translated questlines if you're having a hard time. It's also pretty cheap for an amazing game!
