29 Fairy/Elf designs based on Richard Doyle's original artwork – printed both sides of the page
The media could not be loaded. This is a coloring book of designs which have been adapted by Marty Noble from the original designs by Richard Doyle. Mr. Doyle's artwork dates back to 1870 as a series of illustrations. In 1884, Andrew Lang wrote a story based on those illustrations. The artwork and the blurbs in this book are based on that storybook. The designs are detailed, some more so than others. However, I would not categorize the illustrations are intricate and difficult to color. Some designs have a heavier use of black as both a color and a shading technique (especially with multiple lines drawn for shading.)This is a series of illustrations with fairies who are impish and having fun rather than the elegant fairies I usually see in coloring books. It makes for a cute change and is quite fun to color. The designs are mostly horizontal in format and the book includes one design which spreads across two pages. This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing it with my coloring medium.29 Fairyland designs adapted by Marty Noble based on Richard Doyle original illustrationsPrinted on both sides of the pagePaper is medium weight, slightly rough, white and non-perforatedStaple bound with three heavy duty staples and easily opens to a flat position for coloring.Designs stop well before the binding area (except for the one that spreads across two pages) and can be removed in whole from the book by removing the three staples at the binding. The designs have a framing line at the outer edges and a short explanatory sentence at the bottom of the design.Only one design spreads across two pages and it is the center design – meaning it is made up of a single page with staples in the middleAlcohol-based markers bleed through this paperWater-based markers spot through and/or leave colorful shadows on the back of the pageGel pens and India ink pens leave colorful shadows on the back of the page. India ink pens can bleed through in spots if you apply heavily or use multiple coats.Colored pencils worked well with this paper. Both oil and wax-based pencils provided good pigment, layered well with the same or multiple colors and blended well using a blending stick. Hard lead pencils did not dent through the page.If you choose to use any medium other than colored pencils on the pages of this book, you will probably find bleed through or colorful shadows on the design at the back of your working page.

Not a child's coloring book
Richard Doyle's Fairyland from Dover Art Coloring Books is both a disappointment & a pleasure. This is not a child's coloring book. It would truly display in activities children would not understand, being taught that fairies are benevolent creatures.Pictures are back to back. No perforations allowing for display.Fairyland is for the advanced colorist. Others would be perfectly able to complete, but may be disappointed in their results. A few examples are available, yet this book may daunt all but those willing to work on their shading & coloring skills. This book will not be done quickly. I intend to further my skills coloring these pictures. Luckily, I don't display - I just love to do the work & can look at pages I've completed if I am looking for an idea on how to color another project!

Not at all what you would think
The pictures in this book are really creepy. Instead of pretty or cute fairies let you might think from the cover and the description, the pictures are of creepy children, mostly boys, with pointy ears. Surprising and disappointing.

It's a fun book to watch the fairy's come alive
I love this book of fairy's. I discovered after purchasing several coloring books in the past that there was a age limit to children coloring books so I started not to purchase it. But in the beginning I never noticed it I just bought whatever I liked. I got so carried away with fashion, nudes, Alice in Wonderland,Steam Punk , and birds and flowers etc. and said forget it buy what you like. I have so much fun with this book. The fairies are cute and funny and angry etc.

Nostalgic Fairies with some finer detail. Good for adults and young experienced artist.
This coloring books looks to be a coloring book for adults or experienced young artist. The images are cute and fun. They have a good amount of detail but not overwhelmingly so. The imagery seems very typical of children's books that I grew up with and so made me a little nostalgic. I used colored pencils which worked well for some of the finer details. I can see where regular crayons might be a challenge to use with this type of detail. Overall, this is a fun book which I enjoyed coloring in.

Detailed and beautifully drawn coloring pages
My eight-year-old daughter loves fairies and coloring so for her birthday, I got her a couple of coloring books by Dover. The paper is of good quality, holding up to colored pencils, watercolor pencils, and also fineline markers (she uses Stabilo markers). I love the details in the illustrations and each picture has a theme such as "Triumphal March of the Elf King", "Water Lilies and Water Fairies", etc. Some pages are in portrait and some are in landscape mode, but each picture depicts the lives of fairies as one would find them in fairy stories. The book measures about 8 by 11 inches so the pages are a nice size for coloring and getting some beautiful pictures which might even be framed.

Adult coloring designs for young and old who have an imagination
Perfect for the budding artists (2 granddaughters age 8 and 11) in the family, as well as for myself....I, too, have an imagination and can be entertained while I daydream, choosing the perfect colors, like playing in fantasy land. These whimsical designs are charming. I ordered 3 different books, plus a large set of gel pens, along with a tin Crayola box and a box of 96 Crayolas to fit in it (with its own sharpener built into the tin box). I gave a gift set of 2 books & gel pens to the 11 yr old to have at home (different books) and sent one to a family member in Assisted Living.

Coloring with my little one has proven to be an excellent and cozy activity for us
Lovely old fashioned images. I bought this coloring book to color with my 7 year- old granddaughter and she likes them (the images) as much as I do. They remind me of books I owned as a child that had belonged to my dad from his mother. Coloring with my little one has proven to be an excellent and cozy activity for us. We make up stories about the fairies, which adds another dimension to our play. But this book is far more inspiring than more modern-looking books designed for children. I heartily recommend it -- especially to other grand parents.

Away from my grandaughter
Love this book. I have to keep it away from my grandaughter by the way whom I had orginally purchased it for. It is so relaxing and putting on some meditation music and just coloring is so much fun.

Bit childish
This colouring book is a bit juvenile. Some pictures are nice, but it's definitely geared more towards kids which is fine. Arrived quickly and I am happy with the seller and experience.
