If it wobbles, hone the jaws.
I was troubled as to how many stars I was going to give this thing. First off the clamp I got mailed to me was not the one pictured, but it is a genuine Lansky clamp that clamps knives for sharpening just fine. The one I have doesn't have the rubber jaws but has the little groove for clamping your blade. Whatever. It works well....with a simple mod (more on that - keep reading). Most of the bad reviews complain on how this thing doesn't hold a knife securely, and they're right, but that problem can be fixed in about two minutes. The groove that clamps the knife just isn't flat enough. There are tiny 'high' spots from the casting process that cause the blade to wobble no matter how hard you tighten it. The fix?? Take a hone from that little red Lansky box sitting RIGHT NEXT TO YOU FOR PETE'S SAKE and hone the darn jaws perfectly flat. Ten strokes on each jaw with a coarse diamond hone transformed this thing from a frustrating piece of crap that I nearly threw away, to a PERFECT clamp that holds my knife far better than my old clamp ever did. Dear me. If you can breathe air in and out through your mouth you can do this. *Inserts Ned Stark meme* One simply does not get a precision machined piece of forged billet kit shipped halfway across the continent to your door in two days for twelve bucks.

Works like it should
I am replacing a lansky clamp with oblong holes. It only lasted 40 years. This will outlive me

Better than the old clamp
I've owned a Lansky system for 10 years. I think this new clamp with the rubber is by far better than the old one. I read the reviews about the rubber falling out but I needed a new clamp regardless. I ordered it and sharpened about 30 knives in the last month. The clamp is till going strong without bending unlike the old clamp. I'm sorry some people had problems with the rubber falling off but I've been completely happy with mine and not problems at all. I also love the two knurled screws instead of one thumb screw and a flat head screw.

Lansky does it again!
I had to replace the knife sharpening clamp due to the screw stripping out of the old unit. I like the new design! The knife being sharpened is firmly secured in the grooves in the front. The four angles allows you to sharpen almost any knife, I generally stick to 25 degrees for all of my knives and I get fantastic results. I'm quite happy with Lansky and will be happy to recommend this to all of my friends!!

not the best I have used
Works okay, not the best I have used, but not bad.

Better than I expected
This clamp is sturdier than the one that came in the set. Also, it is thinner at the clamp end, so sharpening at the lower angles is not impeded by the clamp itself.

Bad casting, wont hold knife steady or straight
Cast aluminum, and i believe their mold is worn out, when you get it the "step" at the end or groove that is made to hold your knife has a radius to it. It wont hold a knife steady and also allows the knife to rock back and forth defeating the purpose of the syep. I thankfully work somewhere that has an in house machine shop and had to use an end mill to make a nice flat step to hold the knife straight. The pic is after ive milled the step

Five Stars
Very useful because it offers a great variability when sharpening knives of all sorts.

Found these break if you tighten things too much. ...
Found these break if you tighten things too much. Perhaps I'm using too much force.Have an extra or two just in case.
