Great Book Series for 10 Year Old
I love this book series. My son and I read this together at the end of every night. He looks forward to it, and would rather read this than watch TV.ChallengeI find it to be straight enough to read, while challenging him at the same time. Forces him to use his context clues for understanding phrases, sayings and words that he's never heard. The writer does a really good job of mixing in these concepts in her writing. We'll alternate reading chapters and I'll spot check to have him define certain words or explain what's happening in various parts, and he's been able to keep up very well.Fiction/Non-FictionOne of the reasons I chose this book series is I love the fact that we're killing two birds with one stone here. The main characters in each book are fictional, but the settings are real historical events and people. This creates a great blend learning a ton of history along with the flexibility of imagination of the non-fictional protagonist. As a history buff myself, I love giving my kid the historical contexts of what we're reading. I find that he's slowly learning a lot history while enjoying the character arcs.

I love these books for kids from 9 - 15 yrs old
I teach school and most kids from 4th grade and up through beginning of high school love these books. They are high adventure with fun characters. I like that there is a whole series of them so once they get introduced to the series there are many books for them to read. They are historically accurate and so they are learning about historic events in a fun way. There are also life lessons learned by the characters. We read one a year with my class and they look forward to it. I helped at a daycare during Covid while the schools were all shut down. One on the boys considered himself above all this school stuff and didn't want anything to do with me or my reading class until I told them we were reading a novel together and one of the choices was an "I survived" book. Immediately he wanted that one and the majority of the kids did too. They no longer were fighting me about reading, but excited for me to come and read with them. Great Books!!!

These are a great series for 5th grade+
This is a really great series for 5th graders. It is an easy read and is easy to understand some difficult and traumatic events. The stories are well written from a point of view where it doesn't scare or traumatize the reader but gives a softer look to such epic events in history.
