Modelling the Panther Tank (Osprey Modelling)

Very nice!
For any modeler that wants to build a Panther Tank. There's even a nice section on the Bergepanther, (recovery tank), even though the items used to build this model are out of production, Italieri makes a model of the basic recovery vehicle. Using this book, you can detail out the Italieri model to a very nice standard. Each model shown gets progressively more difficult, in the detail building. I do think it pays too much attention to specific small details, but the Germans rebuild many of these tanks, so newer parts could often be found on older tanks, just as older parts could be found on newer tanks. There's also a nice small part about the Pantherturm which could make an inteesting diorama. One model even shows a complete interior, nice if you want to build the engine compartment open, too. I'd recommend this book to anyone that builds the WW II German armor, or just wants to add a Panther tank to their collection. Even has some good tips for using photo etched parts.

poor picture Quality
It's ok for general information.....the pictures could be better...not much detail from them....I think the book needs a update

This guy knows his stuff
This is a good book if you are into the Panther. The only critique that I would give is that I wasn't that pleased with the interior photos of one of the models. I'm trying to build one with an interior (my first) and I guess I had higher expectations. Nevertheless I liked the book, and thought it was worth the money.

Outstanding Value
Steve Beveren's book "Modeling the Panther Tank" fills a much needed void in my modeling library. An outstanding combination of photographs, "how to's", bibliography, historical data and kit/accessory list - I consider this one the best of the Osprey Modeling series to date. If you like to model the Panther tank, definately add this one to your library.

Modelling the Panther Tank - Quick Review
A very good book for the advanced modeller but a real mind-bender for the 'newbie'!If you are new to the hobby buy it and learn what you can from it but at best you'll get some ideas and insight into how the 'pro's' do it!I've been modelling for 5 years now and a lot of the content would only be applicable to the modeller who prefers super detailing and scratchbuilding. I only bought it as I was about to build the Dragon Models version of the Tamiya Panther on the front (Ausf.G) and I wanted to replicate that very hard-edged cammo scheme and needed some tips. I was very dissapointed to find that the explanation given for masking the areas not to be painted was briefly covered in one sentence and left me none the wiser - something about spray on glue and a plastic bag. Not on my models.Overall - buy it and enjoy it but don't expect to take a lot from it unless your modelling skills are worthy of magazines!Ben Hinks
