This book provided helpful information in an understandable way for someone new to kayaking. The section on disabled kayaking was uplifting. The personal stories made me laugh--always a plus. Good pics.

Helped me learn everything I needed to know before launching my inflatable kayak for the first time.

This is exactly that. A low-key, friendly guide, with no information overload & the odd laugh along the way. And it manages to get all the important safety messages in too. I could have done with a little more detail in some areas - hence 4 stars - but that's just my niggle & I guess the beauty of this guide is in not being too complex. There are plenty of other books to addle your brain with paddle types, strokes etc. Recommended for beginners & others who need to know that inflatable kayaks are not a joke, or just for the beach. They're popular, serious and here to stay. And getting better all the time! MS.

It's OK but, it could be off putting - it depends on where you're off kayaking I suppose. It really tries to drive home the dangers that are associated with this sport to the point, it's almost off putting! I do recommend the book over all, but the over top scaremongering is why it's not star. However, I'm sure that if I were to go kayaking down rapids/rivers etc instead of just flat water (which is all I do) then I'd probably appreciate it more.

An excellent user guide for those new to inflatables. Both readable and practical. I regard myself as a "returned expert" (after a gap of only 50 years) but was pleasantly surprised to find that I learned a lot from this book. Traditional kayaks I know, but inflatables are new to me. If you are at all interested in the world of inflatable kayaks - buy it!
