Selected Poems 1988-2013

I have read through every poem in this book several times now over the months I have owned this book. I am amazed again and again at the depth and creativity this man brought to poetry. He wrote so down to earth, and yet with such profound depth of feeling. You can see as well how his translation of ancient Greek made him see his own Irish landscape and people as twins to those old, old people and stories. Wonderful book!

Enjoyable and good service

I have always liked Heaney's poetry and this collection is no exception. It contains some fine, subtle and yet emotional poems which sooth and awaken our humanity. A must read!

This volume is a perfect introduction to Seamus Heaney's Poetry.Wonderful thoughts on Life in Ireland--the good as well as the bad...happy, and those quite sad times.A Poet Laureat, this one...on the cliffs of Mohr and the Families who lived there. Beautiful imagery in his words.

This is a good selection of the best of Heaney's poems. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

These poems from the second half of Seamus Heaney's career continue to draw on the land, the everyday world of country Ireland. Also here, however, are darker poems concerning The Troubles, nighttime raids and sudden deaths in the Northern Ireland of sectarian strife. Heaney masters the violence and grief to create vivid, moving poetry, like Yeats before him to turn conflict into "a terrible beauty."

Seamus Heaney should be in every library!

One of the most remarkable features of Heaney's career as a poet was his consistency. Again and again, in collection after collection, he delivered one fine poem after another. He never flagged in effort, integrity, or craftsmanship. This compendium, focused on the last half of his poetic career, underscores Heaney's endurance and the sweep of his lyrical wisdom. It shows again why he was one of the greatest poets of the last two centuries, in any language.

Mr. Heaney's poems are magical. I bought Selected Poems 1998-2013 as Bono of U. Two has said that several songs in his forthcoming C.D are inspired by these last poems. I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Mr. Heaney in 2002 we talked mostly of his epic series of poems 'North' . Anthony Kirby.

I had not read Heaney before. It was a delightful eye-opener. He tends to reflect back to childhood experiences but does so with mild humour and amazing detail. Some insight into the effect of the Troubles on the average person person.
